I have seen on Ebay - hkn6160 and 6161 cables - the ones that fit on the big connector on the back - and the other end is a rs232 - as far as i can see they are for data - but they claim that they can be used as programming cable too - is that right - or can the xtl5000 only be programmed via the microphone connector (on a w7 head)?

XTL's can be programmed through the rear acc cable, you can even build your own. I have a working usb and rs232 combo cable I built out of a spare ignition kit.

Ok - thanks :)
Then i only need the flex cable (part of h1817) for o5 head dash mount that make the connection between the radio and control head - i have a w7 on it now - but have a new o5 head i want to put on instead - am i maybe lucky someone has a spare flex cable for o5 dash mount control head?

To answer your question yes, an XTL can be programmed via the front mic connector OR via the big rear connector. I have 05 heads on my XTLs and have done both. My impression is that the mic connector, using a USB cable, is faster in operation but that may just be my perception of things.
