Hello. I am placing 55 VHF XTS2500 Model 2 radios in service. All have programed OK except one. I made my template and cloned the radios off of it. The one radio powers up on Zone C, all the others power up on Zone A and the switch below the channel knob does not work as programed. It should switch between Zones A, B, C. It does nothing. None of the other radios have these problems. I was using software version 15, but 3 radios needed version 16, so I upgraded. Two of those radios programed OK, just the one I am having problems with. Any thoughts? Thanks. Henry

Sounds like the switch is bad.

Program it for something else and see if it functions for that function or not.

Or, just put in CH TEST mode and see what it reports when that switch is toggled.

I remember seeing an FSB on MOL a little while ago detailing an issue with the tolerances for the A/D converter that senses which position the A/B/C switch is in... There was a software fix for it on MOL.

SUBJECT: XTS2500/1500/PR1500 “B” model - ABC switch appears to switch positions by itself
MODEL / SYSTEM AFFECTED:
XTS2500, XTS1500, and PR1500 radios with the model suffix “BN”. Example model number: H46UCH9PW7BN.
Radios affected will serial numbers xxxCKQxxxx through xxxCLRxxxx and have tuning partition versions listed below:
VHF R01.09.12 and earlier
UHFR1 R01.08.13 and earlier
UHFR2 R01.00.05 and earlier
800 MHz R01.08.04 and earlier
900 MHz R01.00.06 and earlier
The tuning partition version can be verified by looking at the Versioning tab of the Radio Information screen in the
radio CPS. It will be necessary to read the radio to view this information, as archive files do not record these
versions.
SYMPTOM:
The radio function that is programmed to the ABC switch (concentric switch with the rotary channel selector) will
intermittently change by itself. The radio, with no user input, will appear to have been switched functionally from
position A to position B but the switch physically remains on position A. This can cause the user to inadvertently be
on a different Zone, Channel or any other function that has been programmed to this switch.
CAUSE:
Threshold settings not optimized to compensate for product usage over time
RESOLUTION:
If an “BN” model exhibits these symptoms, its tuning partition should be modified using the “CPfix 10001_A”
executable file which can be obtained by downloading from Motorola On-Line (Resource Center > Software > TwoWay > Astro 25 Family Portables and Mobiles) or by calling Motorola at 1-800-927-2744.
NOTE: Radios that have the tuning partition versions listed below need not be modified. They have already had the
solution applied/installed. Units shipped from the factory with serial number after those listed in the affected serial
number range listed above, have also had this solution applied/installed.
VHF R01.09.13 or later
UHFR1 R01.08.14 or later
UHFR2 R01.00.06 or later
800 MHz R01.08.05 or later
900 MHz R01.00.07 or later
SEVERITY RECOMMENDATION:
Low – Perform when system exhibits the above symptoms.

Max - what is the FSB number please?

FSB10468, I believe is what MOL says. Take a look under Resource Center > Software > Astro 25 Family Portables, the fix is there.
