MTR 2000 repeater for dispatch question

This is something I haven't quite understood, was hoping for some insight from someone that's been around the block with these. I service several dispatch centers (took over for a tech that did it for 18 years), and most of them use MTR2000 bases/repeaters. These are referred to as TIP bases, which typically have 4 channels, same Rx, different Tx. From here they are connected to satellite Rx's. So I'm receiving on mobiles and transmitting through the MTR2000. I understand that part, but I don't know what the limitations of the MTR are, and all of them I've seen are setup like this, which leads me to believe that is the limitation. I had a customer ask me yesterday if the MTR could be used to Tx one more channel for their sirens, as they've had problems reaching a couple of them due to the geographics. Can anyone educate me on the limitations and why these "TIP" bases are setup like this so I can gain a better understanding?
