XTS 5000 Reboots when Tx'ing

I recently bumped the firmware in my xts5k from R4 to R16. Now when I try to TX on it, the radio reboots itself everytime. I am unable to transmit at all. I also get the suttering noise when I press any of the buttons. The radio has the old RAM22 processor and I've searched on here and seen that this processor may not like the new R16 firmware.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Does anyone have any older firmware files for the xts5k? Like before R14/15?

There is a similar thread about this. My 5000 also has the RAM22 processor, & has been working great at FW 14 for 18 months. Funny things happen when you get to FW 15 with the RAM22. Try to get it back to 14. There are people here who can help you. GARY N4KVE

I just need to get the file for R14. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have an available flash, just need the file!

What's really sad is there are numerous people that have the exact same problem you describe. Motorola refuses to admit there is a problem and continue to release DSP firmware that exibits the problem.

It is sad and they don't keep the older firmware on MOL so its not like I can reload it. Now I have to try and find older firmware so I can make it go away.

Finding the files wont do you any good if you only have normal CPS as it is unable to downgrade.

Version 12 seemed to be pretty stable for the RAM22 boards.

Well I have a problem child unit experiencing a similar problem but it's not as pervasive. Happens only when channel selector is on 15 or 16 and only happens on certain channels within each zone, no rhyme or reason or anything common amongst them. Radio transmits very briefly, then locks up for 10-15 seconds, then reboots. Already flat-rated and rebuilt 3 times by the depot and same thing happens. It's in Florida now with engineering to see if they can figure it out. Radio started life as a RAM processor unit but was upgraded to a BRAVO the first time the depot rebuilt from a front & back cover kit. Model 3 UHF high 5k

I believe this is a Panter radio so I think the depot is out of the question. How much is the flat rate?

FWIW, I have a friend who has a UHF-L M3 XTS 5000 with the RAM22 processor. He's running R16.00.01 HOST & DSP in it without issues (no screwy button tones, resets, etc.).

However, the radio is flashed for conventional ASTRO & analog operation only. It does have a UCM & is equipped with Multikey, and that is turned on. There are no trunking features in the radio.

I'm wondering if the issues surrounding button tones, resets, etc. have to do with RAM22 radios that have trunking enabled?

I have seen it happen on radios with FPP codeplugs and no trunking system operations or features in the flashcode so I doubt there is any correlation here.

OK. The radio I mentioned does have Q52 & Q53... Guess it was just one of the lucky ones.
