improve maxtrac reciption?

Hi
plz i need to know about improve maxtrac uhf 1 and 2 rx, i read some wher if i remove all front end filter and bypass signal directrly to first pre amplifier transistor i think marked Q1 , this will make reception better! is that right?
if i have not spectrom analyzer with tracking generator,, how i do to tune this filter if its wrong to remove it?

Someone is telling you bad information, or explained it badly. You cannot remove parts and bypass to improve receive. If that worked better, Motorola would never use those parts. They want costs down. They do not spend money on parts not needed. So, something wrong with information you were told. I hope this helps.

It might help if you provide the frequency range the radio is on now and the frequency range your trying to go to.

If your moving the frequency very far, you will have to retune the radio. You will need a signal generator able to generate a signal on the frequency your trying to tune the radio on. More than not, you will have to do a complete alignment on the radio. This will require the radio software, the programming cables, a RIB and a slow computer running pure DOS to do it.

The only time removing the filters in a Maxtrac helps is if using the 935 range ceramic filters in the 927 hamband.
Better to use the correct range filters if you can find them.
But, for experimenting and testing out a radio ( or using a Maxtrac as a repeater RX with external filtering ) jumpering or removing the filters can be useful.

It would also help if you would tell us what are you are measuring for sensitivity ?

You may be surprised to find out that your radio is operating as it was designed to operate, it doesn't have the sensitivity of a similar band ham radio but the ham radio doesn't have the higher Intercept point nor the better selectivity that the maxtrac has.

ok, if that is wrong information,, what model can i chose to make repeater rx very sensivity,, or should i use pre-amplifier?,, what is a major factor on tuning maxtrac to have a good recive?

The Maxtrac has no tuning for the rcvr. It is what it is - broad as a barn door. Their claim to fame was reasonable performance at a reasonable price. Because of the physical design, it is difficult, but not impossible, to add filters and preamps to improve the rcvr performance, though it will look a bit like Frankenstein. If you prefer not to go through that trouble, a CDM mobile might be a better choice. They work a little better than the Maxtrac series. I was pleasantly surprised.
