If you're talking about the CCC machine, those guys are really friendly. Most of them are professional radio guys that work for the various agencies around there. I know most of them, and they're all good people.

Sounds like you need to swap the low-split radios for some high-split radios. Unless you really need the LB-UHF stuff, you should have picked up the high-split radios in the first place.

The FAIL001 is a PLL unlock error.

Is this a PLL out of lock condition? The codeplug that was in it was 100% legit for the radio and model, with nothing odd. The jumpers are all set correctly for the programming, and I can't find anything physically wrong with the radio.

Do I need to do a full alignment on it to make it play nice?

If you've got skillz, you can easily replace the tiny LEDs that are on the board. They sell them on eBay all day long. If you feel funky, you can replace them all with a different color, such as blue, red, or white (or all three).
