A LCS2000 will scan, but they will not priority scan. I carried one at work for several years. Make sure you have a scan list programmed in the radio or else it will have nothign to scan.

I personally have both B & C revision cables. I suspect there is really no difference in the cabel other than Motorola used a different supplier to manufacture the cable. Both of them have worked fine with whatever I have thrown at them.

Your key fail message means that your radio has a encryption board installed and there is no key loaded in the radio. If you are not using encryption you can simply disable it in the programming and you will not see this message. or - the person who previously owned this radio removed the enryption...

Panasonic Toughbook CF-29. Virtually indestructable....available at a reasonable price these days.

I have never seen a UHF motorcycle radio in any other frequency split. Just a FYI they also made regular dash mounts in the much desired "R" split for some large customers. I have a few of these and they are great radios.

Same RIB, different cable and software. There is a adaptor that can be made to go in between the cable and rib that turns the cable into a Astro cable, but it is still a different software package.

Far as your last question, correct. Until you load a valid key into the module or turn the secure switch off you'll get that beeping. Don't think you'll get that KVL to recognize a 5835 chip. If it was the other way around (a 3011 KVL and straight DES chip) it would work. thanks for the information...

It can be done, as I have a MCS2000 in that split running in the HAM bands without issue. I am still using RSS for this radio and the RSS was hex edited to change the bandsplits for the radio allowing it to program down into the ham band.

Yes, it's a pretty easy switch. You do need a dual head cable and a control head that is specifically for rear head applications. Other than that it is really a programming issue. A regular head will appear to work at first in dual head configuration, but it will conflict with the front head.

Fireware upgrades can be handled by Motorola or a Motorola Service Center. There is probably more involved than a simple firmware upgrade. (ie New RF Board capable of that split.)

Earlier model XTL5000's used the same style heads as Astro Spectras....in fact the W9 head is extremely common. Another very common configuration involved the W7 head.

Anyone have any idea of a approximate weight of a VHF MSF5000 125 watt repeater. I am having to put one on a truck (something I have never done before) and I have no idea what oen of these weighs. It won't really fit on the old bathroom scale...lol The repeater is in a 5 foot cabinet.

Again, the Astro Saber is not a current production radio. At the time of production I am sure if a large enough client wanted this feature and was willing to pay for it, they would have made it available. But these are the upper tier radios, voice inversion is usually found only in lower tier radios...

No, no voice inversion for the Astro Saber. Voice Inversion is usually reserved for lower tier radios. A purchaser of a Astro Saber would normally want a higher grade encryption module (DES-XL, OFB come to mind.) There are several threads on this. Might want to consider buying a subscription from Motorola for the CPS. Well worth it for a current production radio. It will keep you in updates for 3 years and you won't have issues like this on this product anymore.

They probably were not trying to be sneaky or anything as you might believe. It is pretty standard to put a radio on the bench for testing when you recieve it. That also includes reading the radio and maybe even reprogramming the unit. Those with legitimate subcriptions to the CPS don't have a issue...

I think Andy Brinkley her on the board can program it. In reference to the id'er, it can not be set for ten minutes. You will need to use a external id'er to be in compliance.
