Well there could be several components that you may have to look at thoroughly.
1). volume switch make sure it's not loose and solder is good.
2). Coils behind accessory jack make sure there not open.
3. Make sure you could ohm out the accessorie jack. (sometimes accy jack has dirty faulty contacts ...

Re: GP300 Error 21
You may have a international version or a board that the board/guts are different then the actual case. Try reading it with the gp88 software. That particular software will read just about any radio gp300, gp350, p110, and of course gp88.

Also, see if your able to describe the model # if it's a lo ...

Re: HT1250 dead
I seen this several times and there are a few more thing's I would check. Also, you said you tried an SP50 x-tal, don't know if that will work, due mostly to differences in part specs.
Here are other things you could check on your Ht1250
This is probably more in depth trouble-shooting requires ...

Re: HT1250 firmware upgrade
Actually most post are correct the highest you coul actually go up to is R05.07B, from R01.00.00. Then go up to current R05.13.04. Silly, but true. Now for Motorola actually recognizing something it's a hit or miss.
