Re: Poor Quality Astro Audio
Although it may not be an issue in this case, it could be the quality of the phone lines themselves. We are having constant issues with a brand new system where we are getting noise in the lines when it has rained for several days ( :-o ) Of course the phone company says "It all checks out OK.&...

Re: MDC Question
XTS 5000s I'm pretty sure have 100 aliases and the 2500s only 50. It is a bit silly. My small FD has almost 100 IDs total between apparatus, portables and consoles. It doesn't leave much room for neighboring communities who come in Mutual Aid. How much possible chip space could 1000 aliases take? (W...

Re: Troops leaving Iraq destroying equipment
I'm sure that armor can't be put to good use in Afghanistan, nor could commo equipment be used back here in the States to assist police and fire departments that are using antiquated or unreliable equipment. Another fine example of the entire system in this country being broken, by both "sides....

Re: Fire Ground Power Levels?
As far as battery life, our issue is that each fire fighter is issued a radio. The radio (95% of them anyway) are kept on the gear racks with the gear. When the guys come back from a call, they don’t check the batteries and it doesn’t get charged. The next call after about 15 min on scene and a cou...

If he's asking to use your cables and software, maybe it's time to cipher out whether his version of CPS or RSS was legally obtained..... If he's not too connected, I would first check with a County Commissioner, or Town Manager or Board of Fire Engineers, whomever oversees the FDs. If your sniffing...

Re: XTS2500 QCII Paging (Transmit)
Other than that, they have been pretty reliable, etc. The waterproof issue is a big one here, as we do a lot of swift water rescues. I think the XTS is the first 'regular' version of a Mot radio that claims to be 'immersion proof/resistant". In that regards, it's great. It's the "R" ...

Re: TPS Signaling - FDNY type of signaling
I do not have a MCC5500 to test this but what is your "Audible Emergency beacon" set at? Have you tried setting it to 2 seconds, see if it keeps sounding? This feature is not a transmit feature to the console and it shouldn't reset. Hope you get your issue resolved. Yes, that was changed ...

Re: Impres batteries and XTS radios
We are beginning to have the same issue with brand new XTS5Ks. All the Impres batteries were fully charged in Impres chargers and cycled a couple times before they were put in the field. At shift change, my battery read 100%, so I left it on. By 1 p.m. after transmitting maybe 3 times for a total of...

pj; here isn't the place to discuss the issue of ditching an SCBA, the only point is that you never know how people under threat of their lives will react. I thank both of you for your replies. And yes, I did understand the comment previous about the console. I suppose my argument is more along these lines: Why isn't it user selectable? The techs installing the system spent a pretty good amount of time with the MCC5500 looking for the option to disable...

Am I being clear enough in what I am looking for and what I'm trying to enable? I'm trying not to confuse TPS with FDNY signaling. The audible Emergency Beacon makes a unique, PASS type sound when the emergency button is pushed. Only on the initiating radio. In theory it would give a search team ano...

Re: XTS5000 TPS Emergency Beacon
Do the radios have the FDNY Feature in it? The issue with this is going to be that the consoles will see this as a standard P25 Emergency and not a "TPS" function. All TPS gets you is P25 signaling with analog voice (a la MDC). So I think if you look at the protocol you will just see Emer...

XTS5000 TPS Emergency Beacon
Does anyone use this feature, and what type of info do you have for me? The radio acts as an additional PASS device, emitting an odd multi tone squawk from a portable initiating an emergency signal. My main problem is that the beacon resets as soon as the MCC5500 console acknowledges the emergency. ...

Re: MDC identifiers
It seems as though the major shortfall in the XTS series is the number of available aliases per list. For the 5000s it's 100, the 2500s apparently only 50. In my fairly small department we are approaching 80 radios. This limits the amount of Mutual Aid radios you'd be able to alias. One question is ...

My FD just got a sizable grant for a complete UHF radio system, migrating from VHF. It would have been nice to have an option to go with these had they been designed with the real world of fire operations in mind: VHF, UHF, 700/800. It's unbelievable to me that they'd design these with no UHF option.

Very bizarre.......... While looking to reprogram a UHF XTS2500, I opened CPS (latest version, can't remember) and after reading the radio, all frequency fields, tx and rx are listed as invalid. I read a lot here, but post very little. As a line firefighter for 16 years, occasionally on the sharp end, a few things are missing from the argument. I'll give my 2 cents as a firefighter. I've used an HT600, HT1000, then HT1250. Once we got the 1250's, I went to ebay and got my own Saber. The 600 was great and the 1000 was OK. For fire/EMS work, the only + to a 1250 would be it's size if you like a smaller radio. But imho, the smaller radios can...
