I connected it to the radio with it on an closed it up in the stop all night and now it's charged. It was beeping, beeping and more beeping, so I just left it at the shop.

If the error is based on features, firmware or otherwise. The older firmware radio has Connect Plus and the newer version doesn't. I don't use Connect Plus anyway.

I would say it is a flex issue,or the radio was taken apart and the flex was not reseated correctly.

I was fixing another W3 and it did not have as hot of a mic as the one I have so I had to make a revision to my mod.
Cut out the mic holder that it fits in from the factory.

You will need to put the green wire on battery and the orange wires is the one that goes to ignition.
Just checked with an W7 astro spectra plus in my office. Your problem should be fixed when you make the above changes.

second mic on a W3 drawer unit?
Can a second mic be added to the drawer unit on a low power Astro Spectra? It would be a regular mic. The HHCH has the hum, just wanting get around that issue.

I had this problem with my XTS5000, I replaced the display with a C04 display and it was fixed. Mine had a C02 display in it when I bought it and gave the same issue. I also had this problem with an aftermarket battery, the voltage would drop low on transmit.

On the Pro Series radios you need to check the " Invalid Fields" before you close the codeplug ,this will help from getting the error you have next time. I have seen many errors like this over the years,it sucks when you have spent lots of time on it.

I have tracked it down to 1 zone ,it will work fine in the other Zones. Now I just have fine the frequency or frequencies that the radio don't like. Thanks Bruce for heading me in the right direction !

I tested 2 35amp Astrons and they stayed in 13.7-13.8 range for 1 hour even when the Spectra powered off and on again.

I do have it programmed out of band below 146, I will remove the out of band frequencies and try that. That sucks to remove Ham stuff.

I have several CDM's VHF & UHF that are fw r5.08.02 and they all have 12.5,20,25 steps. Look at the model # of the radio when you read it with the CPS if it is for example M25KKF9DP6AN it will do all steps. If it is M25KKF4DP6AN it will only do 12.5 !
