That's definitely it... If I knock on the front of the radio during TX or RX (even with a speaker mic) I can hear the microphonics...

Never had this one before... I have a UHF MT2000 (my only one... all my other MT2000's are VHF) that has a scratchy PTT button (really bad scratchiness when holding PTT, bad enough that it screws with the DTMF decoder on my repeater).

We were discussing this yesterday while rekeying our APX radios (the keyloader is in the safe with our original RSS disks, licenses, books, etc.) M should make the RSS packages for older, non-narrowband radios available to someone like the ARRL so us hams could legally obtain it. Speaking for myself ...

My guess would be backlight power on the LCD board has a bad solder joint. I don't know if the EX600's have LED or EL backlights, but probably LED. Check the LCD board for bad solder joints or maybe a chip resister that has fallen off the board from flexing.

The one with no TX audio: Check the small ribbon between the bottom of the front panel and the main PCB (make sure it's connected, remove it and clean the pins, etc)

Checked out the radio this morning...
VCOs are both right where they should be, and I cleaned all connectors, including the interboard one.
Oscillator reference has been adjusted to within 20hz.
Squelch is set properly. Squelch opens at ~0.2uV, but takes its time doing it.

OK, I injected a tone into the repeater receiver and looked at the transmitter output with the SM. I was getting 4.92khz of deviation with a 0db tone. I turned down the volume on the controller (just a simple trimmer) until I got 2.48khz. Everything seems to be working fine, and I didn't notice ...

I think I'll drop the deviation on the repeater's transmitter, as I can do that easier than screwing with the deviation on 8 sabers and 2 desktracs...

Most repeaters will not pass a tone, as there is a high-pass filter in the repeater receiver that strips the tone off before passing the audio on to the controller.

Almost sounds like the VCO isn't locking up on teh repeater input, but is OK on the output.
What is the frequency range / spread? (ex. 463/468) VCO unlock is more likely on UHF where the repeater inputs are (typ.) 5MHz up, vs. <2Mhz on VHF.

Yup, would have to guess that what you have there is a high-split saber (or at least one module is high-split (162-174). It sounds like the VCO is out of lock.

To resurrect this thread, we just got the 2600 back from Motorola. They installed a new battery, new mic jack (the old one was wonky) and calibrated it. It cost about $1200 and took two weeks. Not too shabby in my opinion... and I can use the SA without waiting for 1000 years for it to boot!

The deviation controls are softpots in the service menu of the RSS.
These radios (Radius and Maxtrac) are easy to tune up if you have the right equipment.

We figured it out (by accident)
If the radio is programmed as a secure radio, it won't allow post MDC. We created a new codeplug for one, and forgot to set it as "secure" (we only have the bypass modules). When we went to set MDC, it asked us if we wanted pre or post.

I have RSS 7.0.01, and the only radios that have ever asked pre,post, or both were saber I's. I've never had a saber II or III ask me. It's always been pre.

Make sure you have the option "Clear voice slaved to a mode" selected, and I would also select "Delete secure/clear switch". I don't have the option numbers in front of me, but that might do it.

How much power are you using on your APRS rig? We have ours set at 10 watts, and don't usually have problems with a digi hearing us anywwhere around, and we don't usually have desense problems (I notice some desense on the scanner, but that's to be expected)

I second following the batlabs procedure to purposfully corrupt the codeplug (turn off the radio while writing it, after two or three dots (you have to be quick), then create an 8k codeplug for the correct model from scratch and write it to the radio.
