Display appears to be the same....major difference is that the 8000 has a 1 Watt speaker (which is a lot better than the anemic speaker on the 6000).

Correct. Even with the AES-256 option in the radio, it's useless if you don't have a keyloader to insert the key with. ADP is the ONLY algorithm that can be keyloaded with CPS. It requires a KVL3000+ or better with a flash upgrade card in it to add the algorithm to the radio. If you have a KVL3000+, you should be able to order a flash upgrade card for it and flash the radio for AES256. only KG1 ADP in the radio now , so I need a KVL3000+ and a flash card to add AES256 alg...

I have an APX7000 that will not play the self test alert tone. The option is checked in the cps, and no mute feature is turned on. The display shows self test, and otherwise works just fine. It has been updated to the latest firmware and is NOT an ALT radio. Any ideas? I think it's an ALT radio!

Yes the tuning data in the vocon does not match the tuning data in the rf board, I have seen several of these and every time CPS will read them and write to them but tuner will puke on reading the tuning data. I cannot speak of a 3920 but I doubt it would correct this when tuner will not. Tuner can...
