Yes. If you lower the TX PA output the transmitter can get dirty and repeat trash. But if the CDM radio has a low power setting an attenuator on it could drop its level. I agree to a point. Our frequency coordinator has a policy that requires a short or no squelch time. They specifically recommend the RLC-MOT. Our MSF, like most others, has great audio. I am going to hate running it through am external controller.

Thanks for the info, Bob. We've decided to add a MICOR-based squelch and an audio delay board. We'd just add the RC-210 controller but as I've mentioned we're doing the Allstar thing and there's no need for it. Thanks again.

Recently while we had our repeater off-site for lengthy work our site vendor pulled our hard line for routing in cable trays on the tower. Previously our SWR was nearly flat as viewed on a Bird 43. Now we have 5 watts returning of 100 watts. 5%. Is this really significant?

Gentlemen, this is ham radio and not commercial. The MSF 5000 has (had) excellent audio. Ham radios are designed for 20/25KHz spacing and not 12.5KHz. But because a frequency coordinator chose to squeeze in repeaters by using 15KHz spacing and a reversed pair assignment we have to jump through hoops...

Well, we got the 15KHz rocks installed and so far so good. Audio quality remains excellent, as does receive. But this issue would be easily solved by using an Arcom RC-210 controller on the Motorola MSF 5000 repeater. You are all well reasoned and know the players except that it is 147.70 v. 147.090 -- Catalina. The radio techs at County insist that this is the solution and that a proper preamp will bring it back up. Perhaps changing the IF filter to 15KHz will help.

I fixed it by simply spraying compressed air into the holes. I can now hear a 1KHz tone at 3KHz deviation down to 131dBm. Unusable for sure, but the best of the three that I own.
