Not any more. Someone figured it out. I have a 900 MHz APX4000 that works on 900 perfectly. FPP everywhere. He had a few at his table at the Orlando Hamcation. Full 2.5 watts tested from 896-941. In spec RX tested from 924-941. GARY

Like you were told on the other forum you should have decoded the flash code BEFORE sending the $ to make sure it had the features you needed. Now that Motorola no longer supports the radio, go look on E-Bay for someone who can change the flash code to one with the features you need. GARY.

That may not be such a good idea Gary. These impress batteries contain charge rate electronics that may be damaged by doing that. Many years ago with regular nicad batteries i used to do that also and in some cases it helped revive them if they were on the way to the recycling box. I realize that, ...

While there is no “legitimate” way, I once purchased a 6000 full keypad radio that started off life as a 1.5 radio. So a previous owner changed the 5AN to a 7AN. And it worked perfectly. GARY.

VHF, & UHF, no problem. Straight up program the radio. But for 902, you’ll have to hex edit the CPS. GARY.

If the batteries are Impres, put them in the Impres charger every 32 days. That way they will be reconditioned. GARY.

I own both. Except for the thin grey border around the PTT button on the “E”, they work the same. Both radios have the hottest receiver I have ever seen. I figured since they were the full band split vs the 6550, they’d be slightly deaf, but that’s not the case. GARY

I recently bought a locked radio. I simply programmed in a code plug from the same model radio, & voila, an unlocked radio. Couldn’t have been easier. GARY.

Can’t answer that. Sat next to my friend who did it on my laptop. I do believe he did the CPS convert, & then updated the FW to 1.12.17. That worked for the first radio, but not the second one. Then he tried with the trunking conversion package which included the 1.12.17 FW. Neither method worke...

Since your radio is still 3600 trunking, & not yet DMR, that’s the missing step. You have to enable DMR which also enables the radio to do 902/927, but you lose the 3600 trunking. There’s a conversion step that doesn’t require anything “funny”. Once that step is done, the CPS is hex edited to al...

I have about 12 Gen 1 radios, all with 1.12.17. Only 1 radio did this, and it was only once, a year ago. I had to remove the battery to stop it. GARY.

There was a guy on this forum years ago who did this for me. Lived up in Oregon. N7MAQ was his call. Haven’t seen any posts from Jim lately, but he took care of that problem for me. OTOH, all MTX9250’s work great, & are cheap. GARY

Buy a used XP laptop. Plenty around for $50. End of problem. OTOH, I once owned a MCS2000, & I couldn’t get it to program through the mike jack. I had to program it through the acc jack on the bottom of the radio. GARY.

Also, they tend to date products a few months in the future, as they figure it will take a few months to get from mfg to the customer. Eg, I have had brand new radios, & batteries in my hand in Mar 2016, but were dated as built May 2016. GARY.

I use the typical Motorola external speaker on mine. With the gen 2 radios, & the auto leveling entitlement, it evens everything out. And when you connect an external speaker, the internal speaker still works. But I don't hear it because the external speaker is so much louder. GARY

No. I have been using both base mikes on both radios, & it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also people tell me my TX audio on my XTL5000 in the car sounds better with a XPR mike, the RMN5053A vs the proper HMN1090 XTL mike. GARY

All mine came with the 2504548T05 wallwart, which is 18 VDC. 1000ma. Center positive. It says this on the decal on the bottom of the charging stand under the word caution. GARY.

Yes on both. But on these newer antennas, 16 cm, & 14 cm, that area is black. So what bandsplit would that be? On the older antennas, it was the color of the plastic between the hole for the center pin, & the threads. GARY.

I've seen this on other radios that I've had that were upgraded like that. CPS always shows Depot for last modified by. Just a quirk of CPS, I guess. And just to clafiry, those were radios that I bought that were already modified before I bought them. I have no need for Depot or adding other featur...

No. I've only been back to the shop once, but the radio was not there. I swear, I did see the ham freq in the radio. I can only "speculate" its like the XPR7580e. You can program 900 ham freq's in it, but it will not transmit, while the 7580 works perfectly. The 7580e will transmit perfect...

This is because after a certain version of the firmware and software the radios will only do narrow band. The next issue is the narrow / wide band programming. But Motorola made you jump through hoops and sign your life away to get the wideband patch. All I am saying, is ALL 6 of my XTL5000/2500's ...

Sorry, typo. My radios do have 20.50.09. But as long as Q507 is not part of your flash code, by upgrading to the newest FW will not suddenly make a radio narrow band only like the XPR series of radios. Even my APX8000 does not have Q507, but has the newest FW, & is still wide band. GARY.
