Re: xpr 7550 speaker mic

Some older speaker mics had a double-pole switch (either mechanical or electronic) which only made the mic hot when closed. If you weren't pushing the remote button, the mic + line was open.

Apparently someone decided that's not necessary on the new mics.

Re: Astro Spectra W3 "Y" cable diagram

Ok, I'm kind of lost here. Is FA 6 and 7 on the 15-pin? Making them 24 and 25 on the radio? Which one gets the capacitor? Since I have to make the harness for the 80K, it looks like I go to pins 1 and 5 on the amplifier from FA, and it doesn't matter which goes to which? I really regret losing the o...

Re: Astro Spectra W3 "Y" cable diagram

I should have been more clear about what kind of amp I had in mind.

Is FA the + line for the speaker? Then just hook up the other lead to SPKR - ?

Re: Astro Spectra W3 "Y" cable diagram

Actually, I DO need to connect to an amplifier, a Unitrol 80K that drives the 100 watt speaker under the hood. Any ideas how I can do this?

Thanks for the wire gauge info.

Re: Astro Spectra W3 "Y" cable diagram

Does anyone know what the wire gauge is for the Y cable? I have the radio mounted in the trunk, but the car isn't that big, so I have half of the Y cable looped, and it's in the way. I also need to break out the speaker leads to connect to an amplifier that's also in the trunk. I would rather make a...

Re: Attention Elroy - AVA HHCH

Time to wake up a zombie thread! The 4044 will talk directly to the AS 1 2 or 3 by the terminations on the rear acc. connector on the portable case. I have made it work well by using this information from the AS service manuals and the forward engineering the AVA to "pass" the messages if ...

Re: Which cable to program Astro [Spectra] W3?

Thanks!

Yep, got a RIB. This is my first Astro Spectra, but I've been standardized on Astro Sabers for years.

Which cable to program Astro [Spectra] W3?

Just bought my first Astro Spectra.

It's a 110W with W3 HHCH.

Which cable do I need to program this, and which connector do I plug it into?

Is there a schematic for the appropriate cable?

Thanks!

Impres charger internal primary voltage

Can anyone tell me what the primary voltage is after stepping down from 110VAC in an Impres charger?

I'm looking at mobile use, and it would be silly to start with a low DC voltage, invert to a high AC voltage, then step back down.

You're not thinking cheap enough.

How about picking up some D-25 serial cables (I see them for 25 cents each at thrift shops and hamfests) then making the necessary changes?

Re: Whats the point of buying a 110w radio?

To answer the original question, it's because a lot of the world is outside of 50W mobile radio range, thanks to distance or terrain. Look at Nevada, where I live. Outside of the two metropolitan areas (Las Vegas and Reno, which are 300 miles apart), it's a lot of Big Empty Nothing. Unlike the Midwe...

Re: Astro Spectra W3 "Y" cable diagram

Is there somewhere that the diagram above can be downloaded? I tried to save the image but no worky.

Also, can ANY Astro Spectra use the W3 HHCH? This looks like a better option for me than the other heads, and they are coming more available than they used to be.

Re: To spring or not to spring a Larson NMO antenna?

My rule of thumb is that springs are only used to prevent or attenuate damage from trees, roofs, etc.

If your mounting is at the hood level, anything which the car will fit under is high enough that a spring probably wouldn't flex anyhow.

Re: Systems 9000 siren glitch

I would check your leads and connections. Something may be bad or loose.

Also make sure there's nothing causing the amp to heat up.

Does the tone change when it shuts down, or does it sound like it normally does?

HHCH HMN4044E questions (connect to Astro Saber?)

First question, is there a difference between control heads of this style, or is the cable the only difference between the ones used on various radios?

Second, I would like to use this with the Astro Saber -- has anyone ever wired one directly, or just through the AVA (as I saw on YouTube)?
