Re: Motorola Oddballs through the years
A buddy of mine had a Eberspacher gas-fired heater in a 1972 Volkswagon. I used to have one of those for pre-heating my airplane engine in the wintertime. It was installed in an old toolbox with a quart can of gas and a motorcycle battery. Very portable. Had a flex duct that would blow the air righ...

Why would a trunking (or encryption board for that matter) have what looks like a keypad array on the backside?
Just a question...

Even with a computer background, I used to get that all mixed up... Thanks for the clarification... But back to the subject if I may, as it is actually very relevant to my situation here. I'm currently writing up a proposal to our powers-that-be for more interoperability for our unit. We provide som...

Re: XTS3000 and key erase...
I thought Key Erase was a feature that could only be accessed from the Menu on the front keypad. I don not believe that it can be programmed to a button on the side or top of the radio. The 'emergency zeroize' feature is hard-assigned to pressing the purple and orange buttons at the same time. The ...

Hi there, I did do a search and this topic did come up, but very truncated so I'm assuming that the original requester was one of our banninated members (OK, I know it was, cause I've even discussed this with him off-line...). As such, I'm going to re-start it rather than lazarus a cut-up post. I'm ...

Re: Issues with a Motorola CP200 and CPS – Unsupported Model
That means that my CPS is the wrong software, correct? The trick is understanding that unlike some other companies, Ma' M has different programs for different radio families, indeed sometimes for different radios... Having CPS for one type doesn't necessarily mean you can use it on others. Probably...

Re: Trouble with Canadian Postal money orders???
I have never done that as I have always treated them as a check with bank deposits. As you discovered, banks treat these (like they do to bank money orders) like any other international cheque. In the future, bring postal money orders (not bank money orders!) to any US Post Office, then you get you...

Wasn't there also something in there about the radio not being able to transmit when in programming mode? If you install the key or short out the jumper, it cannot be able to be used until returned to normal?

Re: Cruise Ship
I would think you would be safe with the bubble pack radios, anything else would be risky. Even then I'd do a bit of research. Many countries don't have an FRS equivalent and thus they would be illegal to operate w/o a license. We've had a lot of trouble when deploying people to other countries whe...

'After-the-fact' contracts have rarely been legally enforceable according to my cousin who is a copyright/IP attorney in CA. As they can not force you to accept their terms after the sale has been made. I fully agree that after-the-fact EULAs are crap, but this isn't what we are talking about here....

Interesting; maybe they should include that disclaimer statement in their software or put a license.txt along with it. Well, Mother M won't even sell you the software unless you agree to their licensing provisions, and it is very well spelled out. Doesn't need to be in a .txt file like a lot of sof...

Difference between two radios?
Hi There. At work, most of our mobiles are a mix of MC900 and GM900. They look the same, and I suspect that we got some of them in the days when we still had air bases in Germany. Is there any difference between the two?

One comment about using WiKi. You still don't deal with the main issue of what is IP and what isn't. Just look at WiKipedia, and you'll discover that many pages get pulled by the admins for copyright issues. I agree that it is a good idea for format, but there are deeper questions about limits of IP...

I think that there is a misconception here about intellectual property. You own your radio, period. You don't necessarily own or have the right to fiddle with the software inside... There is nothing preventing you from selling your used car (or Motorola radio), regardless of the IP contained in the ...

Sounds closely related to the EBay/Intellectual Property thread in the General board http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?t=37849 From what I can surmise, you might own the radio and unless it was stolen, they'll have to physically return it to you, but they own the IP within it and control wha...

They're pretty well bullet-proof. We used to always bring one on deployments with us when I was with my P-3 squadron (I was a maintainer). We used it mostly on UHF for talking to the planes as they came back so they could give the servicing desk a heads-up on maintenance gripes. Very reliable. The o...
