Re: IFR Com 120B replacement RTC

No it did not work for me, but lets say I have a work around I have used, I lost all the functions I had and ended up with a very basic test set. So I did a lot of digging reading posts and a lot of reading and programming the RTC chip, I in fact even managed to build a programmer just for the RTC c...

Re: Aeroflex (IFR) Questions

The DS1286 is the type of RTC originally fitted to a Com120B that basically is just a DS1284 with a pin bent out of the way and a crystal and battery soldered to pins of the Chip then the whole lot potted and a cover on the top. What ever you do follow the instructions within the post regards making...

Re: IFR COM120B Help Needed

It would be very difficult to say but at 4.6 Volts some circuits may not kick in, but why has it dropped? It could be a faulty cap going resistive and taking some current/ something else gone faulty, or it could just be an adjustment that is required. The Tants where one for going I believe and the ...

Re: IFR Com 120B replacement RTC

It may be possible to remove the RTC and read it therefore you can save the RTC for the future. It is a bit like playing Russian Roulette, for some it works for some it means loosing everything as removing the chip can trigger a total loss. I used an Eprom programmer to read and program another RTC ...

Re: IFR COM-120B not charging internal battery

OK just an update. The power supply still fails on mains, but when I run up on battery the unit initializes and passes self test. The boss at work made a comment about that was why the set was retired from service. Strange it was working before I looked for the not charging problem, so either I have...

OK I need some guidance from anyone that knows, New LT1070CT chip came today so all fitted back together, I hope I have not taken anything else out but on powering up the test set it gets part way through initialization and then shuts down. I am hoping that as I have removed some shorted components ...

Re: IFR COM-120B not charging internal battery

Just an update, took the power supply out again, found an area on the board with some scorch marks, tested a few components and found a 30 Volt Zener dead short, it was in series with a standard style diode and used with T2 transformer and a LT1070CT switcher chip. So both diodes have been replaced ...

IFR Com 120B replacement RTC

So as the Dallas RTC the DS1286 has been out of production for some years and there are doubts about the age of so called new ones. I decided as well as getting a two DS1286's to buy two DS1284 chips basically what is in the 1286 and to add my own crystal and battery. So I did these. One has a CR122...

IFR COM-120B not charging internal battery

Re: IFR COM-120B Real Time Clock Failure

Hello John

Can you tell me if you have anything to program the device with, out side of the IFR as a few bits need to be set. It may be possible to 'poke' some settings into the RTC in the IFR using serial but I have not discovered how to yet.

Another pin which on the 1284 that is not brought out is Pin 24 /RCLR as...

Re: Sample DB down mathmatics?

I realised, (eventually) that this is an old thread, but it may help someone. I always work out in my head that every 10 dB down in signal reduces the level by 10. So 10 watts in, with 10 dB loss, I would end up with 1 Watt. But, 20 dB loss is not a reduction by 20 it is a reduction of 10 x 10 or 10...

Since I posted the above in the morning and now it is late evening for me, I decided to have a play with the pot one can see, very carefully.
