Okay here's my AAR:
I didn't have access to a large supply so I hooked my NiMh pack to my car battery for 5 seconds. Plus to minus and minus to plus using the TOP set of contacts (Batt to radio) not the side contacts (Batt to charger). The pack was stone dead before I started.

Re: Impres "NO BATTERY" display / ASTRO Saber
4 or 5 AMPS?? No, I haven't tried *that* one! I meant the one where you remove the battery from the charger at the right moment to trick it into conditioning mode.
Let me see if I have it:
Measure batt voltage. Set variable power supply to that voltage. Connect batt to supply at the charging ...

Impres "NO BATTERY" display / ASTRO Saber
Howdy,
A few years I bought a new Impres battery for emergency use. I charged it twice a year. This last charge when I put it in the charger I get "No battery" on the Impres display. Tried all the tricks I could find to revive it. Nope. I'd really rather not buy another Saber battery right now ...

Q: Final Astro Saber CPS release?
Howdy. Can anyone tell me the final CPS version, and Lab version if you know, that supports the ASTRO Saber?
I do not want the software, I just need to know the version numbers.
Thanks!

ASTRO Saber Updating
My UHF 438-521 ASTRO Saber is now working perfectly. I have 240+ channels working in 6 zones. FRS/GMRS, County Fire, big P25 system, 18 Ham repeaters including several P25 repeaters and a P25 calling frequency, news media and misc. I have eight scan lists set to autoscan on the first channel of each ...

Somewhat off topic: My UHF ASTRO has the latest XTS3000 firm with all the usual features, like MODAT, enabled. I have an audio quality question. ASTRO's with older firms had very poor RX audio in digital mode. Sounded worse than Nextel and that's saying something. With the latest CODEC, In theory ...

Me again. Have the RSSI (received signal strength indicator) meter, radio to radio cloneing, lower case display (and any other cool mod's I haven't heard of) ever been documented? Where? Back in 01 my ASTRO did the lowercase display. As I dimly recall the hex editing was twice as complex as band ...

In fact the Ferret has two Racal mounts. One for the turret and one for the drivers compartment. Neither has an antenna on them at this time. I'm just happy they don't seem to have an internal coil. Re: ASTRO Saber settings
Ahh, but there is a master setting. Somewhere. On some frequencies setting the per channel squelch to zero doesn't open the master squelch. Granted on most freq's it does but not all. I'm starting to suspect the master setting is a physical pot on the RF board not a software setting.

Re: ASTRO Saber settings
The CPS says the per personality settings are a "fine tuning". They won't let you set the real squelch threshold, just add more. That may be seen as a good thing. That means it's likely no previous Ham has messed with the setting.
Now that I think about it this may be a "feature" not a problem.

Howdy all,
Yet another AS question. I have the latest (final?) CPS. Wanted to change the master squelch setting. There is none. Okay. Looked in ASTRO Tuner. Not there. Tried to set the battery low alert setting. It chirps at 33% left. Settings not found either.
Ideas?

Not really? The OEM Whip is about the best. Larsen or Centurian are just as good or not better. Due to the size and portablity issues that is about it. Unless you want to mount a BNC antenna on a Pith helmet like at a hamfest.

I have a UHF high band Astro that I want to tweak. To get the best reception I thought I'd
first put on an antenna with a few db of gain. Couldn't find one for UHF with that rare mini-UHF
connector. So I got a BNC adaptor off eBay. Now I can't find a 450-512 BNC HT antenna.

David Clark VOX box to Saber cable?
Howdy all,
I got a cool D/C VOX headset (H7140) and now I need the cable that attaches it to a Moto' Saber III. Anyone ever made one for themselves?
I have the VOX box (V7100) too so all I need is the box to radio cable.
How hard can making one be, he says with a smile.
Thanks for the advice.
