Unfortunately for the most part it doesn't go direct to the radio. It needs some sort of interface (kinda like a TNA200) box in between.

Do you know if it is tone or DC?

Best of the CT/Radius? One of the good 'ol workhorses is the Radius GP300. The main thing that fails in respect to Radius portables is the 2-pin mic jack - GP300, SP50, CP150, CP200, CP125, P1225, CTxxx, PRxxx, etc... they're all plagued with it. Yep, another low-tier product licensed out to BearCom with their own label to boot. They also did the same thing with the Motorola CP125 (aka BC120) and also did up an iCom portable as well.

All of the above have used the original manufacturer's software for programming.

Yeah $300 is mid-low range for a JT. Some will charge around $425-500 for a nice one, and that isn't uncommon. They've probably got the hands-down best audio for an FPP radio vs. an HT1550 or XTS5000 (I'm not a huge fan of the Astro DSP but it does sound OK, I'm partial to the Jedi series).

The 2180 is a very nice radio, and can also be upgraded to be a field-programmable unit if you so desire and have a full keypad radio. IMO it's more rugged than an MTS2000. It might cost a little more, but it's worth it.
