Hi Doug,
A case-swap was tried; chassis swapped from questionable case to known-good case. Didn't test the questionable cases with known-good chassis however. Good point.
Chances are this is an in-chassis problem. I hope it can be solved. The next thing I may try is swapping the VOCONs with known ...

MSF recovery
Hi Bob,
The MSFs should be recoverable. In the RSS, F2 section where Read/Write are, there should be a selection for "Read Station with Fatal Error" (F5). It may or may not be relevant to what you describe. Forcing a good codeplug in is another option. I believe even with a codeplug error, the ...

ASTRO Saber Is - Can't Read/Write (w/RSS)
Howdy folks,
Picked up 4 ASTRO Saber Is... all IMBE. Two work great, one having had a minor problem of a loose spannernut causing intermittent power. The other two cannot be read.
Here're the specs known:
H04RDC9PW5AN
HOST/DSP unknown. (One might be HOST/DSP 7.some.thing, the other likely HOST 5 ...

Re: CXB PL Indicate
There is a jumper on latter-revision SSCBs that is a PL indicate signal. It comes directly from an ASIC. It is labeled 'JU18' - I believe the center of this pin, properly buffered by an NPN transistor, will be just what the doctor ordered. The other method is use of the TTRC board's programmable pin ...

Re: IFR Woes
With all the (horror) stories I've heard about IFR/Aeroflex & their work with 1200 S's these days, I have no plans to send mine in. Other cal/repair houses might win my business someday if their prices and reputations are sweet enough. At this point, I can't afford their mistakes.. so far my unit ...

MSF 5000 TX Shutdown Bypass?
Have an MSF 5000 without a PA. This is a CXB station, rather than a CLB station. My manual shows jumper 'JU1' on the control board as the bypass jumper to prevent TX shutdown (test mode) regardless of the PA return signals. The manual is the Digital Capable Stations manual, not the original MSF ...

Still no success
Well folks, still no success. I've tried re-seating the VOCON/RF board connection a few times with no change.
The radio still acts as though it's not even getting power. The light doesn't give the slightest blink when I click the knob on. The case is fine - checked that as one of the first things ...

Interesting..
I didn't do this at an ESD bench. I did the best with what I have here (haven't had trouble before). The case appears to be A-OK. I examined the flexcircuit carefully & it has good continuity. Power is getting to the rear of the radio. I highly doubt that I ESD'd anything on the board ...

ASTRO Saber III - DEAD ?!?!!
Hi folks,
A bit puzzled, frustrated, etc. here....
Bought an AS 3 earlier this year. Everything working good, realigned it and got ASTRO TX working (alignment was way off), etc. Many months of good operation, no problems.
Then I decided to buy a DES-XL module seen on eBay. I'd prefer a dual ...

Mystery Solved? (Let's hope)
Thanks for the feedback, fellas. I was hoping it would be something simpler than firmware/DSP issues. Being new to owning ASTRO equipment, I'm still in part of the intial learning curve.

ASTRO Saber III - Digital TX Issues?
Folks,
I'm having an odd problem with my AS 3. Everything seems to work fine except transmission of IMBE signals. I can successfully decode IMBE signals such as LAPD, HT-to-HT or a couple of ham-band repeaters using Quantars here. However, transmission HT-to-HT or to the 2 local repeaters is a ...

Thanks guys, I changed my TX crossover freq. to 448.200 (an educated guess based on my experience) and so far, problem solved. 449.50 was the old (default) crossover freq. This had actually been my first thought of what to change, but I wanted to run it up the flagpole before trying. Never hurts to ...

ASTRO Saber III Question - Odd behavior w/ direct
I'm experiencing some 'interesting' behavior with an ASTRO Saber III just purchased a week ago. It's an H04RDH9PW7AN (403-470) w/ the usual Nick 591008-4F1E00-9 flash. HOST version is R07.11.00 & DSP N08.02.06.
Anyhow, the problem I'm having is TXing on frequencies roughly the range 448.40-449 ...

MSF 5000 UHF - Help with SSCB issues
Recently bought an MSF 5000 C74CXB, was stiffed on the SSCB. (Found missing upon arrival) Bought an SSCB on eBay from an 800Mc station, model TLN3090B.
After fitting it into the station, I powered the station up & the diagnostic display read 'd9A' - later lookup defines this as "SSCB HSR data In ...
