Now that's wierd! I have not seen any converta-bomb inject MDC into a portable. Normally the option board would be for the portable and send a burst in or out of the CVC. Pop that puppy open and see if there are any funny SP's in there.

Before you start tweeking on the coils, take some compressed air and blow out the dendrites that form in the preselector coils. MT1000/HT600 UHF had a problem with this, but not as bad as a 800 Mostar.

You could hook up two spectras to one speaker, BUT you must isolate the DC voltage on the speaker lines. 100uF at 50v caps on both speaker wires before they merge into the speaker should handle it. Would I do it? NO! ?

Look at the end of both a /\/\ and woody HT antenna. Both are SMA type, but one has a recessed center an the other is flush with the bottom of the threads. Don't swap 'em. Also new style woody ants fail with regularity.

You should check to see if any solders are broken around the antenna mount/jack. Transmitting without a good connection to the antenna will turn the inside of the radio into a mini microwave oven!
