Re: ATV antenna
I usually use the Shakespere 8 footers mostly for height for a marker flag but the height definately helps with coverage too. Plus if i'm not mistaken it's a 3db gain antennae so you can cut power down and still get the same range

NO, your 5.14 firmware is not that old, you shouldn't be having those problems, a new codeplug will work with that version. Take the radio in and have the firmware updated to brand new and it will update the codeplug version too and problem solved?

So is this only with the cps that forces narrow? What happens to ht1550's with FPP, can you still change it back to wide manually? On atv's i've always went with a fiberglass marine antennae that don't need a ground plane. an 8 footer with 3db gain is about $40 and has coax attached. mounts with 1/2" pipe thread to a marine mount and has a quick release so it can be folded down for transport just like a boat

regardless of how to fix the problem in the future, If that antennae is on a working radio right now i'd put some kind of sleeve over it so it can't ground out on the body of the truck or any of the gear. Plus if anyone touches it while it's transmitting they can get burned from it.

your software is 10 years old, update your software and you'll be able to read it no problem. And if you update your software you'll be able to download new firmware that will add new options to both radios and fix older problems.

You shouldn't need the pinout on the back of the radio, just use the drop down box that says acessory package and select if the radio is going to be used as tx or rx and it will do the rest and assign the pins accordingly

Unassigned means exactly what it says, that slot has no assignment to scan anything. And don't know how many channels you have in that radio but each scan list can only hold 16 channels
