That’s good to know. I was looking for some low profile Astro saber knobs to replace the standard knobs on my Astro Sabers but they seem to be impossible to come by.

Do the Astro Sabers have knob retainers as well or is it just for the standard Saber series that needs them ?

I know this post is going on over 10 years now but I just wanted to say - thanks to this post, I managed to fix one of my Astro Sabers ! Upon further inspection I’ll have to have this reprogrammed anyway. I wanted DOS turned on to block that annoying MDC squawk and that was never turned on. Thanks for the reply ! I figured it was a programming issue. This radio is actually already installed in my car, and I don’t have access to Astro Spectra CPS. Yep, I had an absolute mint Astro Saber 2 R and actually ended up selling it to a member here on Batlabs about 5-7 years ago or so. Just started getting into the Jedis again after many years with the XTS3000/5000. Picked up a super mint mts2000 uhf A4. On local GMRS it does really well. Realizing these are long since gone from Motorola, it seems that there isn’t even an aftermarket battery maker for this. Unless I’m not looking in the right places. Yup, back in the late 90's mid 2000's, a LOT of film crews used GP300's, a few GP350s, and SOME SP50's.
GP300's were popular with race car / pit crews too.
Guess everything is going Digital now.

Around my area ( central CT ) most PS frequencies are all UHF ( and all quickly going P25 as well ). There are a few 800MHZ P25 systems ( State Police being one of the first ), and VERY few VHF PS frequencies.
So I'd go with UHF followed by 800MHZ.

If you do go the Astro Saber route, make sure you have the Astro Saber programing cables, and a RIB box to program them.
