Re: APX8500 Antenna
The point of the can antennas is not the look but they are rugged. Here in New England when clearing snow off the roof or going thru a carwash the antennas won't be damaged and the radiation pattern is ideal for repeaters. The 6" 1/4 wave will bend and stay bent. And the Pctel UHF is wide band ...

IMHO, the single RF connection is a bad design. Should have the option of at least 2 if not 3 antenna ports on the radio. Does anyone know what type of antenna connector is on the APX 8500 mobile? Never seen it before, some type of quick connect. We were told by a moto shop tech that it is a QRX....never heard of it nor can google find it. I would like to find an adapter to attach test cables and other antennas.

We had the same issues with one. Started out intermittently going into low power alarm and would self clear. Finally after a year of this it quit altogether and now shows PA Fail.

High power is needed for some situations. We run mountain top 350w vhf P25 repeaters, TXRX .6db loss duplexers, preselectors and ARR preamps, 6db omni 4 dipole antennas fed with 7/8 heliax, no run is over 150'. You would also need the xtal tuning coil for the second freq if there is not one there already. Most likely it is not if it was a factory single channel. After the xtal and coil are installed, you would need to tune it on frequency with a communication service monitor.

Did you get the VRS750 to work?
We checked with Moto and were told at the time it was not compatable, only the new DVRS is, so we went with Pyramid 200 series and they work great, even does in-band UHF repeat. Our APX7500s are VHF/UHF.
