Had the same trouble. Did exactly what KS4VT suggested and it was a no go. After mucking around with it, decided to do a repair installation of the CPS and it then worked. Give it a try and see if it helps you.

Now if these scanner manufacturers would make one that would handle a SmartZone system correctly. What I mean, allow the user to input 32 control channels, let the receiver do a site scan by RSSI levels with changing sites automatically and have site aliases. That would be sweet.

If you do not see it, call MOL and open up a file, asking to have access. Should not take more than a day or so. You will see the latest version of the CPS you have subscribed to.

Are you sure the selected personality has scan enabled. If not, the radio will not scan, since it is looking for the scan list and there is none.

Went to MOL yesterday and attempted to download the lastest revision to Astro 25 CPS. No problem downloading the CPS for the mobile but the portable CPS finishes after only 14 Mb. The zip file is corrupt because it is only half the size of what it should it be. Anyone else experiencing ...

Looks like yet another new version of the CPS was released today. It is only to fix a bug with how the software acts when adding a new personality in a 700/800 MHz Type II when Splinter Channel enabled. No other fixes in it. Version number for those who keep track is R04.01.03

Also very easy to interface a PAC-RT with. Great scanning receiver, especially if you get a dual front-end fast lock synth. Only problem is the oxidation of the pins between the boards.

Talk with the boys in marketing. They are the ones who control the design and feature sets of the radios Motorola designs. You want a 20 channel scan list to be offered in an XTS3K, write the VP of Marketing. If he gets enough letters, he will ask the engineers to develop it.

I don't think the XTS5K case will do the job for you. Display drivers are different, IIRC. But since it will only cost you $50, buy the case and see if you can make it work for you.

I have two W3's and love them. I am using a dual band COMPROD disguise AM/FM antenna, and you can not see a thing. Might upgrade the radios to Spectra Pluses, so I can get 512 modes.

Batdude is right, you may wish to get some sort of deal on the LCD display, when the come available.

My vote is for a MT-500. Battery lasts and lasts. Sure you need channel elements, it is hard to find ones with the scan and dtmf pad, but it can take a heap of abuse.

Just been released. Only two neat features are the ability to import/export data in CSV format, and being able to designate buttons on the control head to allow for direct channel/zone entry. They still have not increased the scan channel list as has been rumored.

Here is a question. In the W4/W5/W7/W9 series of Astro Spectra's you can defeat the need for the ignition sense wire by removing a chip resisitor in the control head. Is there a similar modification available for the W3 series? If so, what is it?

It sounds like you have timeout your handheld. Set the time out timer in the conventional mode to unlimited, and things should be fine.

Got to wonder about Motorola.

I hear Astro CPS 2.0.5 has been released, but I have not seen my copy, yet. Sometimes I get a week after release, other times 6 weeks. Makes you wonder.

Anyhow did they incorporate the 20 channel scan option in it, as was being opined early this year?

Tip is negative polarity (Reverse to the standard RIB). Would recommend you purchase the AC/DC adapter from Motorola. As Monty will tell you, you can easily zap one of those things with a Walmart power cube.
