I have a project to resurrect some low band Syntor X9000 radios. I may want to build up an ASTRO Spectra A9/W9 at some point. I have three radios. That looks like a VHF range 3 Securenet Saber radio. The top of the radio has funny shaped a secure/clear knob to activate the encryption module in transmit mode. It has two positions and an emergency button in the middle. Rotate that to the "O" position to see if the tone goes away. Turn ...

Re: Motorola Saber 3 UHF - 5.4KHz off frequency- normal drift?
I have been refurbishing UHF Systems SABER radios for a long time and find that most of them are within 200 Hz of spec. This is pretty good, but they are 2 ppm TCXO's. The regular SABER radios have a 5 ppm TCXO and from the ones I see, they are very good as well. These are surplus radios, probably b...

I just picked up a nice Feb 1988 vintage MX360-S . A UHF Secret Service model with scan and 36 modes.
It has a NLE9010DSP01 DES module installed. Is this a DES-XL module? Date Code is 3-88 so apparently fitted to the radio shortly after shipping.

What Bill_G said. spot on. Your repeater has desense and it is hearing its own transmitter. Either faulty antenna system or duplexer. Do the tests into a 50 ohm dummy load to rule out the duplexer. The antenna could be too close to other electronics resulting in a mix of signals or noise. The echoin...

True; the capture ratio is degraded as well. Yes digital starts looking attractive when you are forced to narrowband. You will have improved range, though arguably the voice quality is not the same. Motorola would call this result of "Fait Accompli", or "a done deal - money in the ban...

Re: Narrowband - why does Motorola specs imply deafer radio?
When you perform 12 dB SINAD testing, the signal generator is adjusted to 60% system deviation (Per TIA/EIA 603D), So for a 25 KHz system running +/- 5 KHz deviation, you set the 1000 Hz tone at +/- 3.0 KHz. For a 12.5 KHz system, the deviation is +/- 2.5 KHz, so the tone is set at +/- 1.5 KHz. This...
