Sorry, RIBS are serial port only. Some here on the board have had luck using USB to serial converters, but I would venture to say the majority use computers that have actual serial ports.

No Motorola does not, Yaseu used to make one, but I don't believe they make it anymore. The only Dual band portables you may find now are amatuer equipment and thus not type rated for your applications.

First are you using a RIB or Ribless cable?

You might want to read the Astro Saber Primer http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61128 In a word yes, they can be capable of encryption if a module is installed. Read the above referenced post and you should be able to answer most of the questions you wanted answered.

In reference to the question about IS radios being two watts, I have seen both 2 watt and 5 watt versions of the same radios. I believe (Canadians correct me if I am wrong) that Industry Canada had more strict rules on IS radios and they were limited to 2 watts.

Sounds like you have a radio that has been inhibited by a system administrator. Most likely stolen.......

Try reinstalling the RSS from the factory Disk(S) this will most likely solve your entire problem. Remember if you recieved pirated RSS you may not have recieved (probably did not recieve) Disk 2........

The ID burst is most likely MDC or something. That can simply be disabled in the programming.

As far as the scan, I have never seen a MTS2000 that was not capable of setting the scan list the way you described. Again, simply in the programming.

FYI, these are great units, but sounds as if you may be having PA problems. This is pretty common on these units, Buy a replacement PA, I would almost bet my bottom dollar this would solve your issues.....

The labor rates alone at a local shop will make the radio uuneconomical to repair and they are no longer supported by the depot. There are a couple of members here that do a great job on this and have reasonable rates. "Will" is one of those. A PM might be in order.
