Re: MCS2000 Type 2 question

Your radio must be affiliating with the system to have the signal meter operational. ie. you must be a authorized user.

The radio must communicate with the system.

With Sprint / Nextel Gone, How will this effect rebanding?

As this article reads Sprint / Nextel has now merged with Clearwire. I wonder how this will effect the rebanding issues? Is it possible for this to become a non-issue in the future? Now that this merger has taken place, I also wonder what will become of Nextel. Many of us have grown to depend on the...

Sounds like the repeater / base stations the guy over in Evansville, IN had been making for years. You still need to read the radio with the same version or higher to tell you what version it was last programmed with. The seller might be able to tell you.

Re: MCS2000 RSS software version

The only way to tell what version it was programmed with last is to read it with a the same or higher version. Since most legitimate Motorola shops had subscriptions to the MCS2000 software (very common radio) you should not have a issue.

It really depends on what you are trying to do with it? Good is such a relative term. By no means is that type of repeater anywhere near a continuous duty repeater or something to be used in any service that may be considered mission critical.

As Tom said, if you don't need to do any digital modes (P25) you have a lot more to choose from. If you are looking for one to do digital the Astro Spectra would probably be my choice. In fact I still have a stack of 100 watt VHF drawers that are all IMBE. PM me if you are seriously looking for one.

It really depends on what you are trying to do. If the board is already IMBE capable and has everything in the flash you need, the 512K radio may be for you. I have had several of them and they are good radios, but you will not be able to put a whore flash in them. Also all of the 512K radios I have...

In theory, all P25 radios of all the manufacturers talk to each other just fine. A firmware refresh is done by a authorized Motorola Service Center or a trip to the depot. It is not a part, it is done electronically. It is done with a special dongle or i button and the appropriate CPS. Contact your local Motorola Dealer.

A much easier solution for you at this point is to pick up a Spectra or MCS2000 Model 2 or 3 and you will be able to do this with out having to have a workaround solution. The price on these surplus has come down enough to make it affordable for you to do.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but it only works with Impress batteries that are charged on the radio in a Impress Charger. I am not sure if a newer firmware revision must be had as well. It is not a item you can turn on and off via CPS.

I would talk to the person who is responsible for programming the rest of the radios on the system. They are probably going to be your best resource and they should be able to assist you better than we can here on the board.

It could be any number of things causing the radio to not affiliate.

Without knowing what processor is in the computer it is somewhat hard to tell, but if you can get it to boot into DOS and run the MTSX RSS from a true DOS boot you can give it a shot.

Remember although you can get to a DOS window inside XP, you want a true DOS boot to use any RSS.
