Re: Two Quantars & Standby or setup-knockdown

Can you give a little more detail about how you are going to have these connected to the console? It sounds like you want two stand alone repeaters and the ability to switch the console and repeat to one or the other, and have the one that isn't active be totally dead? Yes?

That's the biggest hurdle with simulcast. Microwave links are next to impossible due to terrain. (goes back to the dynamite suggestion...) Two separate locations. The DIU is 10 miles away. I need the manual DTMF setup an knockdown for when we lose the phone lines or the DIU/ASTROTAC/CONSOLE blows up. It can't be automatic because if the phone lines go down, they will both lose connectivity and both go into in-cabinet.

Well in that case I think I can say for sure this time that you're screwed. You would think with all this technology, that /\/\ would have come up with more than 16 channels to a scan list. Kenwood radios can scan every channel in the radio if you so desire. M, not so much.

I could be wrong but I believe the talkgroups 515 is describing is only for CONVENTIONAL astro, not trunking. They are effectively the same as a multi-PL conventional analog channel. I don't think that has anything at all to do with trunking talkgroups which is what he is trying to do.

If this is a trunking system, which it sounds like it is, then disabling this talk-permit tone will render you talking in the blind. You will have no idea if the system accepted you and is listening.

The better suggestion is reducing the tone volume.

The answer is sometimes. If it is stopped on another channel, it isn't going to work. If it doesn't get to the A tone until it is half way through, it won't work. If it misses the tones all together, it won't work.
