The main thing is you have a "B" model. Check the electrolytic caps of the HVPS and , IIRC, there's a zener diode in the circuit that we replaced quite often.

Sorry, don't have a high voltage module. You might want to specify which R2001 you have (A, B, C or D). The A and D models have version specific supplies. The B & C are the same.

IIRC, the Long Beach radios had an SP version of software for their extended band split but would program with standard software without extending the band. Also, using the radio shutdown to intentionally corrupt the memory would work much easier with an older version of software such as version 4.?...

Either one will be fine. The R2008 does have more bells and whistles, such as a spectrum analyzer, sweep generator, larger crt display, etc. but for general maint. both are good.

You might check the center of the speaker and clean out any metal filings that might be there. This was a big cause of distortion and speaker rattle when I worked on these at the depot.

You will need seperate operators and service manuals. Assuming you don't have any repairs to do on the unit, a free copy of the R2001A service manual is available on repeaterbuilder. Nextec was in Japan and was the official service depot for the Asian market. Zvika Golan (the owner) is very knowledgeable on the equipment. Skedmom is correct that CTDI is the official depot for the R2600 series and older.

The lithium battery is okay @ 2.9 V (it's a 3 V battery). Since you checked the LVPS voltages, the next step is to check the master oscillator (located behind the scope module). You should get a 10 MHz signal out.

Usually, this problem is caused by loose hardware on the Synthesizer (A9) module or the cover screws (top & Bottom). If it IS the covers, be sure to clean out any dust accumulated in the gaskets.

Just FYI, the Saber's should retain the encryption key for about 30 seconds after battery removal (or the battery voltage gets low enough). As long as you keep a good battery on it, and perform all battery swaps in under 30 seconds, it should keep the key. PROVIDED that you shut the radio OFF first...

We tried repairing the synthesizers at the depot once. It wasn't worth the time or effort. About 92% of the synthesizers were destroyed just trying to get the boards out of the shield.

Most likely your problem is with the "pot" itself. IF you want to try to reset the software, enter special function 79. Special functions are entered by pressing both arrow keys on the keypad at the same time and then the number wanted.

Yes it is. Take your audio signal input it to the Scope/DVM input BNC connector next to the RF I/O port. The sinad meter itself is on the main screen when in the generate FM mode.

There is a 10 MHz TCXO (or OCXO in the /HS models) that is located in the left rear portion of the monitor. That is your reference oscillator.

If you know the frequency of a simulcast system, monitor that frequency and adjust the reference oscillator for minimum error. A control channel for an 800 MHz trunking system (analog) would also work.

Motorola does not sell parts for the Min V. They consider it to be depot repair only due to the intrinsically safe rating. NOTE: Once you open the housing, your pager is no longer IS or FM approved.

Yes they board and modules are the same. In fact, when I was servicing the MT1000 at the depot (in the final days of MT1000 service) when we ran out of boards for the MT, we used boards from surplus P200s.

As for your problem, first remove the covers from BOTH sides of the VCO and remove all the screws from both board. That should free up the board so you can see both sides.

The only other module in the receiver is the VCO. You have already changed the others. As for components on the main board, I'd look at the crystal filters FL2 & FL3 and I would look at U100 which contains the second mixer and discriminator.
