it uses a serial ribless cable. The cable also has electronics in the cable so it will not be easy to make a cable.

Actually DES-XL in Astro mode sounds just like unencrypted Astro.

The Jackson system is mixed mode (analog and Astro). It is possible that the EMS?FAS are using analog.

Report the problem through the proper channels and have someone look at it.

As pager Geek and I have both stated the Astro Spectra CPS WILL NOT program the Astro Spectra Plus mobile.

Also the Astro Spectra Plus uses a ribless cable. The Astro Spectra cable and rib box will not work.

The Spectra Plus and XTL5000 cables are the same. The XTL2500 uses a different cable.

The Astro 25 mobile software programs the Astro Spectra Plus, XTL2500, and XTL5000.

The Astro 25 portable software is for the XTS1500, 2500, and 5000.

I've seen this with MTRs where the duplexer is not seeing a true 50 Ohm impedance from the antenna system.

Try a dummy load or a varilator on the duplexer antenna output and see if it still happens. Check the antenna system.

With the PA bypassed it will give PA low as the RF sense circuit on the output of the PA does not see the forward power. There should be a control cable going to the PA (small molex connector) as well as the V+ and ground. Make sure that is plugged in.

Is the antenna you are using for 160 MHz reception a center fed antenna (have the female pin in the bottom center of the antenna)? I've seen people use antennas from old analog Sabers on the XTS series radios and they won't work very far at all.

A BIM with an AUX I card could do E & M keying but he'd still need to build an interface to go from balanced to unbalanced audio for rx & tx. The tone remote adapter is still the easiest way with a tone keying BIM as others have mentioned.

Since you said other radios are doing it also it is possible someone is keying up on the announcement talkgroup then if the system is busy all talkgraoups that use that ATG will be heard by each other if there is activity during the hangtime period.

One additional note, if the alignment is off substantially you may need to go back and forth between the mod comp and the deviationlimit several times as they interact with each other a little bit.

If the ID is not in the system it will still only try to affiliate once. The radio would receive a nack back from the system and stop trying to affiliate.
