The only other difference you would have with matching cable to a 1/4 wave atenna as you are using, is when the cable exits the base of the antenna at a 90 degree angle, then the feed imedance will be changed.

Did you look for a section dentoing timing between TX and RX in CPS?

Usually in the milli-second range, normally, the delay is from RX to TX, to allow for tone turn off on the receiving radio.

When testing, are any other transmitters up and running at the same time?
What's closest to your system, channel/s, power/frequencies?
You might have coupling issues on top of PA troubles.

I would suspect the reference oscillator as the culprit.

This oscillator is the main reference for TX/RX frequencies, offsets and any timebased use.

You'll have a lot better luck if you use a duplexer and ONE antenna. For VHF, the DB loop antennas work well, unless you are in heavy snow country, then a fiberglass stick is a better deal. Putting two antennas on the tower will mean that at HAM frequencies you will need to separate the two antenna...

Get out the handy dandy RF adaptor and verify the TX power.
The P.A is a bear to replace due to requiring hot air tools.
RX on the 1250s are not as good either, even when the RSSI is set properly.

Driver problems are rare, look to the P.A and check the RF current on TX @ high power.

I agree with wowbagger...

Bad feedlines always introduce noise and allows ingress of IM products, even the self-generated type.

RF coming back into the cans via the TX or even mixing caused by nearby transmitters can begin the process.

Improperly 'sealed' RF is a gremlin for duplexed systems.

The red base on the dipole antennas, are for the 800 band and will not work on 900.

I would check your wireline connections to the MTR.
If you are using punchdowns, a loose wire, or one not punched down firmly can also cause this very problem.
