Clipping RSMs to XTS antennas

Post by TomSlick »

As is often the case, I'm dealing with folks who clip the remote speaker mics to the antennas of our XTS's (or to the base of the mic cable) when the portables are in chargers or not being carried in holsters with straps. Is there a better solution out there? Some sort of gizmo that we can mount on the radios that the RSMs can be clipped to? The antennas are taking a beating.

If not, I'm thinking of checking out the various d-rings and similar items and placing one over the base of the cable to act as a place to clip the mic.

Maybe something sort of like this:

Or maybe fabricating something myself. (3D printing might be useful for this.)

I usually clip mine back onto the strain relief of the RSM connector on the radio.

They do that as well, but to me even that isn't really optimal. When I try that, the mic pops off pretty easily.

I use my 4 year old's elastic hair bands. Clip the mic to it and drop the loop over the antenna. I know when my little girl is out of hair bands when I find my mic in the floor.

I picked up a pack of these:

I'm thinking I can put them around the base of the RSM cable and clip the mics to them. If that works out, my only concern would be about possible rusting.

Sure wish it were like the XE RSM. That has a flip-our D-ring for attachment to an epaulet (among other possible uses), but it slips nicely around and down the antenna. The clip assy on the XE RSM is a totally new design.
