PR860, cosmetic refurb kit exist or no?
I've got a few of these, and some of them are ugly. I've ordered refurb kits for the Pro series off MOL, and even the Jedi radios (which have all been discontinued), but all attempts at even finding a parts list for this radio are feeble. On my MOL, there isn't even a tab showing "Parts", under the "Service" tab, just programming cables, RIB, CPS, and antenna/battery adapter.
So the magic question is there a cosmetic refurb kit available? if so anyone got the part number? Thanks, Erik

call Motorola, for some odd reason they did not ad exploded view and replacement parts for this radio.PMHN4058B is the front cover (list $199).For that price I hope it is an entire refurb kit and not just a housing.

It goes back about 15 years and I don't know how much it might be relevant to the 'New' Motorola but I had to open a case with parts ID for them to add a few parts to the system so they could be subsequently ordered, took a few days but I got my parts in the end.

well, things are REALLY going downhill on Solutions, I guess they are too busy make golf course deals on selling new large phase 2 systems to bother with us old conventional analog users. Anyway- parts ID first said that Motorola didn't make a PR860 (uh, really? they are still showing as supported models and AFAIK are still in production), when I said this and *ENCOURAGED* them to check their own website, they said "oh, THAT one"....now that we are on the same page, they had NOTHING on the radio, other than what is already on MOL. I couldn't even get a P/N for a simple basic service manual. Anyone out there use these in your fleet? Ever had problems getting parts for them? I'm not asking for some SP model. And the $199 price is for a complete front cover- which is absurd, as there is nothing in it but a speaker/mike and flex. Which I don't need. They make refurb kits for all the other Waris radios, you would think the PR860 would be no different...
I mean, this wasn't/isn't an obscure "one off" like a Saber SI- it is a current radio that is (at least I thought so) fully supported and sold in low band, VHF and UHF as a "direct replacement for the HT750" so my local MSS says. Thousands were sold. I see them everywhere. So I opened a case and will check back within 72 hours.

Both are on my MOL under the manuals section...

Front Housing: 1578009A01
Nameplate: 3378010A01
Radio uses the same knobs as the HT1250. Same escutcheon cover. Some Motorola dealers *rubs fingernails on lapel* actually know the products they sell. You may want to consider reaching out to one of these dealers to order the parts. Probably easier than calling Motorola and complaining on Batlabs. Might even save a couple bucks off list!

Thanks- I wish there was an REX kit, those little parts add up. I guess they want the "ugly" PR860's to just stay that way, so you'll run out and replace your fleets with shiny new XPR's.
Just funny how they will sell REX kits for HT1000's and MTS radios which are long OOP and no longer supported but a PR860 which is still in production, and you'll cough it up if you want to refurb them.

Re: PR860, cosmetic refurb kit exist or no?
The REX kits were driven by the depot. Generally as a way of reducing the CPU to a more reasonable level.
Since the folks down in MotoMexico have forgotten what the REX kits are and no longer use them there is no drive to create a more efficient repair kit. A kit for the PR400 display radio would also be nice.
Without a full court press from the MSS's throughout the country, I highly doubt that Motorola will come out with another REX (cosmetic kit).
Speaking of. I do have lists for the PR400 should one want to have all of the part number for what WOULD be in the REX kit should there be a REX kit available. I'm also working on some of the XTS series radios but I can't gaurantee the part numbers from the AN to BN model covers just yet.

Why use refurb kits and half an hour of tech's time at $5 an hour when you can use a front cover kit with electronics??? hehehe

I was wondering where you were getting techs for $5 an hour, then I realized it's Mexirola we're talking about.escomm wrote:Why use refurb kits and half an hour of tech's time at $5 an hour when you can use a front cover kit with electronics??? hehehe
