Help with ID of a Moto OEM Antenna

Post by N4RPD »

I need help with IDing a couple of OEM (or what appear to be OEM) Moto antennas. I got over 30 of the first antennas in the bottom of a box when I purchased a bulk lot of radio gear from an auction. I believe they are to Sabers but not sure what band. The length from the tip to the base (before the threads) is 172mm metered out. They appear to be Helical VHF 162-174 MHz, but the color is wrong. According to Motorola, the color should be blue and not white.

Then there is this single antenna that was in the box with the others, and it is too short for a VHF. The length is approximately 140mm from the tip to the base (before the threads). It appears to be a UHF Helical but the length is wrong and so is the color of the tip.

The first antenna has an Astro Saber accessory retainer nut stuck on it. You should be able to screw the antenna out of the silver base. You are dealing with two separate pieces .

Bingo! They were on there tight, had to use pillars to loosen them. They are all blue tipped VHF Helicals.

I just realized that the second antenna is not a Motorola but some after market POS. I'm throwing it out. Thanks for the fast response, and if any needs an OEM VHF Helical I got 45 of them sitting around.
