Rewiring a 8 pin (RJ45) to 6 pin (RJ12) microphone

Post by Tegalad »

Hello,

I've acquired two older radios, a Radius M110 and an MC-Micro without microphones. Since 6 pin microphones are pretty expensive (over 30 $) I would like to get two of the 8 pin mics that go on GM300 and GM900 (11 $) I understand pinouts are like this :

6 pin mic:
PIN 1 - HUB (HOOK)/PGM
PIN 2 - RX audio
PIN 3 - PTT
PIN 4 - MIC HI
PIN 5 - GND (AUDIO)
PIN 6 - GND (PTT)

8 pin mic :
PIN 1 - RX audio (orange white)
PIN 2 - Programming lead (SCI +) (green)
PIN 3 - PTT (connect to PIN 5 for TX) (gray)
PIN 4 - MIC AUDIO IN (orange)
PIN 5 - Common GND (yellow)
PIN 6 - Hook (black/red)
PIN 7 - PB2 (brown)
PIN 8 - PB1 (blue)

Now, according to Will's post here http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.p ... microphone any Radius mobile or Maxtrac mic can be rewired and used, so that's ok.

I presume I should connect it this way on the 6 pin connector :

PIN 1 - red/black wire from pin 6 of the 8 pin connector
PIN 2 - orange/white wire from pin 1 of the 8 pin connector
PIN 3 - gray wire from pin 3 of the 8 pin connector
PIN 4 - orange wire from pin 4 of the 8 pin connector

is this ok and what should I connect to PIN 5 and PIN 6, seems like yellow wire from pin 5 of the 8 pin connector must go to PIN 6 of the 6 pin connector, but then what with PIN 5?

As I answered you on the other site:

Pin 5 is common gnd for both logic and audio on the MaxTrac/GM300 (Radius) mobiles. You'd need to tie Pin 5 on the RJ45 to both 5 and 6 on the RJ11.
