Florida Real Estate Update
Motorola Solutions signed an agreement to sell its building and 78 acres of land in Plantation to a private investment company. MSI has made a long term commitment to remain in the building with a 12 year lease (with three, 5-year additional options).
When the deal closes in October, we will begin a year-long optimization project to eliminate vacant space, consolidate teams, enhance community spaces, upgrade carpet and paint in the new build-out areas. This will result in consolidating from 600,000 square foot to an optimized footprint of 325,000 square foot for our 1000+ employees on site.
MSI will continue to be the anchor tenant with predominate signage, a dedicated customer entrance, 1 to 1 parking ratios and a much more effective future cost basis.
Many of us will move from areas we have worked in for many years. However, this will provide us a unique opportunity to maximize work flow, collaboration and communications between teams as adjacencies are optimized and teams are co-located closer to your work partners. The first moves will start in early 2014.
All along, we have made sure to listen to your feedback and incorporate suggestions and ideas into optimizing layouts, lab and team adjacencies', cross discipline collaboration areas, and work environments.
We're off to an exciting start and with many milestones still before us.
These include closing on the sale agreement in late October along with completing moves by October 2014.
Your manager will share periodic updates as we finalize construction and move schedules in late 2013.
Regards,
FL08 Management Team

Interesting. Could this be the first indication that Motorola is starting to feel the competition in the radio market? Motorola has ignored their customers for so many years after the Galvin family was forced out of managing the company. Is this a sign that changes are again coming to the surface?

The Motorola we all know and love officially ended when the company split (Mobility and Solutions). Mobility has only so much gas left in it, but Google has money to blow and wanted someone else other than HTC to make Android hardware.
But Solutions still thinks it's 1986 and can do business the way they did when they were the only player in town and everyone had fat wallets.

The views here are my own and do not represent those of anyone else or the company, the boss, his wife, his dog or distant relatives.

I'm sorry to hear that. I remember back in the "good ole days" my middle school took us on a tour of the facility. It was nice to see the inner workings (as much as they allowed) of the plant.
