Xts3000 Smartnet

Post by xts3000forlife »

Evening folks! I have an XTS3000 that is currently connected to a SmartZone network. It works perfectly! The only problem I am experiencing is, when I attempt to connect to a SmartNET system, it gives me "Out of Range". I'm not exactly sure why this is occurring, I've spent hours attempting to fix this. If anyone can give me a hand or a few tips, that would be greatly appreciated! Yes, I have made sure control channels are proper. I live in the city I'm attempting to connect too. I have an MTS2000 that connects perfectly fine. I've checked the flashcode and everything, the radio IS SmartNet capable. Please help me!

First question is, are you using this as a scanner or had this been programmed by the system owner?

Using it as a scanner, BUT I am a fire academy student and have permission from the system owner to monitor while logged in, and reason being is because my radio is also being used when I go on shift (ride-alongs).

No, I'm interested in this type of stuff so he gave me the essentials (Control Channels, System Key, and the Unique ID for the radio) but I can't figure out why it keeps saying out of range whenever I put it in. I have SmartZone working perfectly fine, then SmartNet is just a fail.

My advice to you is to have him program it.

There is fundamentally no difference between SN and SZ that would cause that message, other than something else completely out of wack, radio way out of alignment or something else going on.

All SZ is, is an interconnection of SN systems (breaking it down to its simplest form)

Do you have the coverage set to "None"? If it's set to SmartZone it won't work with a SN system if you're parked on the talkgroup itself.

I might have to let him program it if I can't get it, but I'm one of those people who can't give up aha.

You can try throwing in a dummy frequency in a conventional channel. Then setup a scan list for the system you're trying to listen to. If it picks up communications, then it's probably not affiliating correctly with the system.

Also, if it's an XTS3000 that doesn't have 9600 trunking in it, set the affiliation to PTT and see if that picks anything up.

If it's one of those, the ID you were given might be bad or you might not be close enough to a tower when it tries to affiliate.

I set up the scan list with conventional control channels just to test, and it does indeed pickup the random traffic being put out. Also, how would I know if my XTS3000 is 9600 trunking capable? It can't be the ID because I use the same ID on my MTS2000, which works perfectly. Also, I'm within the city that I'm attempting to connect too, so I most certainly close enough to the tower.

Flashcode: 100004-000000-4

That's specific for my radio^

Not sure how your on a smartzone system when the radio only supports smartnet. I'd say you need a host/dsp upgrade as well just to rule that stuff out. If you have a radio on the system why are you putting another one on with the same id?

You can use Akardam's decoder to see exactly what your radio has in it. I can tell off hand yours doesn't because it would usually end with "480-4" so the flashcode would be something like 500008-000480-0.

Something to keep in mind is your DSP and HOST are really old. The latest DSP was around R07.73 and host was N08.03.05. You might want to consider sending your radio out to be upgraded. There's a few people on the here that will upgrade it for you for around $50. You should have it aligned while it's out if you're doing that.

Your radio (based on that flashcode) supports SmartNet only.

You shouldn't be seeing any smartzone options.

In addition, the radio system you reference is a standard smartnet system.

Sans a hardware or programming issue, it should be good to go.

Actually, without looking up the specific HOST, I bet the radio doesn't have the rebanding firmware in it, so its looking for the channels on the old table, and not current post rebanding table. Pretty sure its HOST 7 or greater that supports rebanding.

Looks like 7.7x is needed (http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.p ... 32#p376032) since it appears that system has been rebanded.

Short story, you will need to take your radio to your local Motorola dealer and have them do a "software refresh" for ~$75. If your friend has flashes left, he can do it as well. Also as stated, when you get the radio updated, have it put on a service monitor and benched checked for proper alignment.
