DAYTON 2014! Who's in? The official 2014 thread

Post by wazzzzzzzzup »

moderators can you make this a sticky like each year.

IM DEFINITELY GOING!

i encourage all of you to buy your hotel rooms soon, they book up very quick, often by march its hard to find a room in the closest areas to the fest.
popular hotels i know of are all the hotels on miller rd, they are an excellent location with plenty of food within walking distance.

ill be bringing
VHF XTS3000 on the usual 151.88 in analog and P25
UHF XTS3000 scanning the usual uhf batboard freqs in analog and P25
VHF Icom F3161DS (NXDN digital) on 151.880 Digital RAN 1
UHF Icom F4161DT (NXDN digital) on 462.7125 Digital RAN 1
NEXTEL i355 set to direct talk simplex channel 1 code 1 (do you have an old nextel that does directalk? bring it, there's a following of peeps that do)

i dont have any DMR/MOTOTRBO radios yet, but ill be looking for some :) what is the default DMR squelch code?
if i find a good deal on a V or U 5K i may pick one up.

anyone setting up any repeaters on the grounds? VHF UHF 900 analog/P25/DMR/NXDN?

Frequencies.....the usual list from batlabs.

Name Frequency Service PL

Green 151.880 MURS D143/NAC293 (the most popular in list for analog P25) i heard DMR/Mototrbo data on it last year, but didnt have radio to decode
Blue 151.940 MURS D143 (never heard any batlabs)
Red 154.570 MURS D143 (never heard any batlabs)

Name Frequency Service PL

xband 146.5750 Analog Ham ___ D143 } Crossband (has some activity, depends on the year)
xband 446.8250 Analog Ham ___ D143 } DPL 143! (has some activity, depends on the year)

Astro 146.5650 Astro Ham IMBE CAI Digital CSQ (has some activity, depends on the year)
Astro 446.9250 Astro Ham IMBE CAI Digital CSQ (has some activity, depends on the year)

Alpha 462.6625 GMRS DPL 072 (never heard any batlabs activity)
Bravo 462.6875 GMRS DPL 411 (never heard any batlabs activity)
Charlie 462.7125 GMRS DPL 143 (has some batlabs activity, depends on the year)
Delta 462.5500 GMRS DPL 627 (never heard any batlabs activity)
Echo 462.7000 GMRS DPL 331 (never heard any batlabs activity)

when i say, never heard any batlabs activity, i mean never heard anyone transmit the listed DPL's. i usually decode on all but 151.880

remember the bat dinner at miller rd longhorn in 2005? good memories, it would be great if another dinner like that could be pulled off.the last few years, we have been to Golden corral. it seems thats a very polarized place to eat, some really love it, some really hate it.
think about how to ENCOURAGE Motorola learning safely with GRACE.....NOT condemnation.

We plan on making it part of an 8000 mile road trip.
Hope to see lots of people there.
Probably be on 900 mhz and maybe a 440 P25 channel also.

Will be scanning all of the dstar 2M and 440 repeaters in Dayton. These dstar repeaters are all preloaded in the Icom internal database in the ID-51 and IC-7100 radios. Go to "17-USA NE," and select any of the 2M and/or 440 Dayton dstar machines, and auto load them. Or, use the GPS "Nearby dstar Repeater" function to do the same. I noticed there are also a number of dstar machines in surrounding cities nearby Dayton. I will probably hang out on these going to/from my hotel and convention center. Hopefully, I will have the new ID-5100 in my rental car by Dayton.

Heck yeah. Last year a couple groups had on-site repeaters set up, linked to the rest of the DMR-MARC or DCI networks. There are also two local TRBO repeaters in Dayton, one right by Hara, the other across town on the South end of town.

I'm sure one of the DMR groups will have an onsite repeater there. There is a TRBO repeater on the tower across from Hara Arena that's connected to the DMR-MARC network. So needless to say there will be DMR coverage there.

I'll actually be there this year, space 3810, I'll have the standard amount of fun stuff, shop early for the best deals, I don't want to take anything home, cold beer will be on site as usual, it's 5 o'clock somewhere....
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

I made a late decision to come to Dayton on Friday only. I'll be wandering around in the flea market and listening on 151.880 NAC293.

I'll be bringing a few VHF and 7/800 P25 portables with me to sell, so I may make an announcement a couple times on 151.880. I've got various other stuff I need to sell, but since I'll be walking around all day I don't want to bring anything too heavy!

Looking forward to it! It's been 3 or 4 years since I last attended the Hamvention.

If you want to sell any of your radios out of my space, I have a display case and a little room.
