APX8000

Post by escomm »

A friend that works for the state insists a birdy told him Motorola is working on an all band radio like the Unity & Thales that is software defined. I had a hard time believing him. What say you?

If they can come out with a 7000 that has LTE, I would say that anything is possible. Question is will it support the legacy 3600 baud systems if this is in fact a reality. If so they will corner the market even more than they have, especially with the Fed's. I have brought on four (4) federal agencies in the last year that all have V/700/800 APX's (both port and mobile) and recently the VA police dept. that exists at our local VA hospital with U/700/800 portables. They jumped on the opportunity to have access to the local systems and even have encrypted talk-groups to boot. :)

And I must say that the do appreciate the capabilities with some very nice wallpaper that hangs in my office.

Local MSS guy came back from the Moto Partner show around the same time they had IWCE. He stated he saw the APX7000LTE there and there was a APX???? "Tactical" radio. I forget what the number series he said it was in. Was not the SRX. He didn't have any details on that.

By chance was it the APX3000 "Covert" body radio? I've played with those first hand... what a mess. They're just slightly smaller than a Thales 25.

It's a possibility, but I'll ask. I didn't think of that one at the time. Sounded like they were show casing ultra new stuff the way he way talking - but again not ruling it out.

I've used/tested the APX3000 covert radio and it worked/performed very well for the application.

Personally, I would like to see some type of a display on it. Even just a basic 8 character, but even without it, it's a very functional radio.

There are some agencies here that use them and seem happy with them.

I would guess that the 8 in 8000 instead of a 7 for 7000 (over weight reporter with fat fingers?)was a typo based on the number of radios and the overall rpice delivered.

It was clear that last year this thread was not about the APX8000 (8 radios for $24k).

I recommend future APX8000 posts go here:

The SRX2200 is the "combat radio". Are you thinking of the APX3000, the covert radio? http://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us/ ... -3000.html
