APX 7500 MIP5000

Post by webby52 »

Brand new install of MIP5000. Can't get the 3 APX7500 resources to ID anything nor will they go into emergency when one is pressed from a subscriber unit. Other consoles in different Comm Center trips the emergency ID when pressed so I know its not a subscriber issue. Also the Caller ID option is greyed out on menu bar so unable to add any aliases. Just went thru the MIP5000 training with MOTO online but of course these issues weren't discussed.

APX7500 or APX7500 consolette? What gateway are you using?

Digital gateway, its a consolette I guess. I was able to get the caller id to un-grey, as it must be enabled in the control panel apparently. Still no emergency IDs.

Can you post the flashcode of the Consolette? Sounds like an optioning problem like Enhanced ID or something...

Got radio to ID. Radio wide setting in CPS. But still no emergency alert on console. If you press the Emerg button and then PTT it will alert on console. Small victory as the fire/ems console across town gets the emergency as soon as you press the Orange button.

Apparently just an APX7500 not a consolette.

What release of MIP5000, and what firmware version is in the APX7500. What type of control head is on the APX? Remote mount?

From the planner:
Digital Control
APX 7500 Mobile in a tray (05 remote head)
Features supported: Console acts as Virtual Control Head for the Mobile in a tray. ASTRO IDs, all mode changes, all soft keys as programmed on the radio, the PTT ID or Alias will display in the Activity Log Window.
Note: In this configuration, all decoding of MDC and ASTRO IDs is done at the radio and not at the MIP gateway. The console will only display what is displayed on the control head of the radio.
What type of system is it? the MIP5000 is not a system console. it's just a glorified remote from the mobile. It will only display what a mobile will display. Will your mobiles display emergency and the originating ID? This is often a system console function.

The Apx is brand new. Remote cap on chassis mounted in a tray with 2 other Apx. MIP 4.0. Brand new install. P25 trunk system.

So wait you said that the console decodes it if emerg and then PTT is pressed but not when the emerg is hit. Is this a trunking system or conventional?

P25 trunking. If I press orange button nothing happens on console. Though the fire dispatch center gets it on their zetron no problem. If I press orange button "emergency" flashes on portable display and then PTT the MIP5000 will show the alert with no sound. Perplexing. Now if I press the Orange button on a conventional channel hits the MIP no problem.

So after four days of banging my head against the wall... We think maybe there is an issue with the P25 system. The fire/ems console is connected directly into the system via ip. The emergency pops up on their console with no issues. On the fire response talk group the emerg button works flawlessly and shows up on other radios. On our TG and a neighboring PD TG the emerg button will not put the consoles (MIP/other is a zetron) into an alarm setting. Nor when you press emerg button will it show up on our radios on the PD TG. So we now placed a call to Cassidian and wait and see.

Good luck with that. If the system has been accepted, you may be on your own. They are not known for their after sales service.

That may make a big difference in this case. It brings out a flaw that could turn the tide in future sales. A company that doesn't support it's infrastructure will wither on the vine. Same goes for the radio service shop.

A prime example of this is is in the emergency generator field. One company has a lower purchase price on their generator, but the normal replacement parts like fan belts, starter motor and those items can only be bought from this vendor. You can't run down to the local auto store to even buy a radiator hose. This then drives up the operational cost. Plus in the middle of a major storm, your dead in the water to keep you emergency generator running. Low cost up front, but high maintenance costs. Is this the kind of support you want for a company to have?

Now with what could be a software or even maybe a firmware issue with a Cassidian supported radio system, where will the buck fall? Not a good position for a company to sit idly by and expect the customer to continue to pay for a problem that might be called a design issue. At least Motorola would have people in there looking to see if they can duplicate the problem and then come up with a solution. Harris would do the same.

We will all wait and see what the outcome is going to be on this one. Let the group know who steps up to the plate to resolve the problem.

How is the emergency function programmed into the 7500? Make sure it matches what the other subscribers are in the field i.e. Tactical, Revert, ETC. on each trunked personality. If the radio doesn't see it, the MIP sure won't.

Make sure that the emergency receive option is enabled in the APX units. The fact they are showing the emergency after pushing PTT on the subscriber tells me they're simply seeing the emergency call, but are not set to react to the emergency alert
