GM300 Ch. Spacing?

Post by n3kvp »

Hello all,

First of all I did try a "search" on this but, :-? could not find anything. My question is, will the newer 12.5 kHz Ch. Spaced GM300s also do 25 khz Ch. spacing, or is it locked in the firmware? I see alot of the newer 12.5s showing up on greedbay, but I need the 25 khz models for ham radio receivers / exciters.

thanks, Butch

PS. If I did miss this in the searches, please hit me with a 2x4 and point me in the right direction! :D

HI:

Here is your information.

Motorola made the GM300's in [ 2 ] If Bandwidths, one
is the 12.5 Khz ( Narrow Band ) and the other is 20/25Khz
( More common known as wide band now )

With a GM300 in "Either" bandwidth you can use splinter
channels, that is to say with either radio you can operate
on 464.550 & 464.5625

The problem one encounters, if you have a Narrow Band
GM300 ( 12.5 Khz Bandwith ) and try to receive wide band
signals from a Radio with the dev set @ 4.5 ~ 5 Khz the
Narrow Band receiver will be "DISTORTED" in receive since
the max Dev from another radio must be 2.5 Khz or less.

If you have a Wide Band Radio, it will Receive "Both" signals
without trouble, but if you try and receive a signal from a
Narrow Band Radio on a Wide Band Model, it will just sound
like the fellow is talking away from his mic.

You will not get the Audio Response Desired.

Tech Tip:

They "CAN BE" converted ! but the Parts alone are about 50~60.00
per Radio, and requires Removal of the RF board, and the IF Xtals
and Ceramic Filters to be changed out.

I charge 125.00 for this type of Modification in the event
you do not have the time or wish to bother with the conversion.

Monty,

Thanks for the info, I will continue to search fro the wide band Radios, and pickup a couple spares too.

Thanks, Butch
