Would it be 'error 59' that you are getting? Usually, if you go into the service menu & make a small adjustment & save it, you can then read the radio normally.

Hello Frank:

Many things could be the issue from a Clone Rib, Poor Cable,
to the Computer.

This has been covered a number of times, but the general
thing to check; if your set up has worked before, and you are
now having problems is to;

1. Make sure you have a fresh battery ! Ni-Cads, Old batteries
can light the LED, but not able to run the rib box.

2. Make sure your Rib to Radio Cable is OK.....Sometimes In the
more cheaper grade program cables, the wire in the Flat Cable
breaks, and can cause trouble.

3. You ALWAYS should use a External Power Supply when programming.

4. Make sure you are using DOS 6.00 ~ 6.22 as a Operating
System.

5. Sometimes, the GM300 Program may get corrupted as well,
and its wise to perhaps reinstall the Soft Ware.
=========================================

Tech Tip:

We have some new developements for Rib Boxes (of all types)
comming, and should improve (and keep them safe ) from
damage. some of which are:

1. Using a " Fused Line " for Units that Program Spectras !

I have seen many Rib Boxes Damaged by poor Cables, and
makes it worse when the PC foil burns right off the Board ! A
Simple Pico Fuse will prevent this from happening !

2. The Use of Semsemi 7.5volt Zener Diodes will keep not
only your Computer Safe, but the Radio as well.

These Zener Diodes are Superior in Quality, and gives
better protection than just a cheaper type. These live
Right On the Data lines.

3. The Connector Header from the DB15 and DB25 should be
securly Mounted to the PC board with machine screws and
nuts.

4. The use of a Extension Dongle for the more inexpesive
Clones to help relieve the stress on the Connector header
as some Clone RIbs mount the PC board right into the center
of a DB25 Connector Header. Not a wise design !

A link will be comming soon to those who wish to make
physical and some electrical upgrades to keep your Computer
and Radio Safe from damage.

No I am getting a serial bus error. It weird i can read the service but not the actual programming. I was told the info is stored on different proms. The radios in question have the speaker problem and i was thinking of pulling the radios apart, cleaning the center pins and reassembling the radio and see if that works.

I started having problem reading multiple gm300's
I would doubt that the problems are with the radios ! as
from a fleet, ( unless they all shared the same problem )

So, I would strongly go back to your proramming platform and
make a detailed review.

One thing you can do, is if you are using a Motorola Rib
box, measure the DC current in stand by and see if its
around 7 ~ 8 ma......

If its 20ma or above in stand by, you may have a issue
with the Rib box....
