I added the obligatory poll for whether people are attending or not. Also I will dig up the channel plans form the past 3 years and post them for everyone.

I'm going to attempt to make it this year. It'll be my first trip to Dayton and considering how much I enjoyed the Rochester hamfest the last couple of years and how much I've heard about Dayton I can't wait.

Anyone else thinking about staying at the KOA campground? Anybody stayed there in the past or have a better campground they can recommend?

Any vendors you can think of out in the fleamarket area that you've dealt with in the past years and gotten good deals from that may be back this year?

I considered the KOA the first year I went... but I would have been tent camping... Boy am I glad i decided against that.

But if you are in a camper, it should be fine for you. I have stayed at several KOA campgrounds with an RV (Key West, Portland ME, PLattsburgh NY) and it's been fine. They even have pay per day WiFi at some of them.

Me as well... I said last year that I'd be there, and I couldn't make it, but I truly hope I can get down (actually, it'll be up) there this year. I'll be coming up from N'orleans or Florida tho.

Well,

I'm in for sure, I just spoke with my new employer and scheduled the time off. It was a nervous discussion to say the least, I was hired yesterday and asked for the time off today. Their pretty relaxed about it anyway, It's a commission sales position and they said during the interview that you can take time off whenever you want. Their way of looking at it is the only person losing money is me since they'll just give another salesperson the hours.

I'll be renting a car and driving from Upstate NY, there's no way I'm driving my F150 that far with it's two 16 gallon tanks and it's appetite for fuel. I found a web deal with budget for a 4 door small economy car with free unlimited mileage for $165 for a 5 day rental.

I'm going to stay at the Dayton KOA Campground, hopefully the weather will hold (yeah right). A tent site without hookup is $33/Night or $39/Night with Water & Electric. I'll just keep the goodies I purchase and any valuables in the trunk of the car to stay dry and if the weather gets really bad I'll sleep in the drivers seat.. lol

Anyone else feel like roughing it this year? We'll get side by side campsites and chit-chat about radios, cook steaks and have a couple of beers.

EDIT: I'll bring some great Upstate NY microbrewed beer!

Waaah. Guess what the fuel bill for my F-350 PSD with a 16' enclosed toy-hauler in tow will be for a 1,000-mile-each-way trip?

Is there a 900MHz ham frequency that batlabs folks hang out on at Dayton?

I picked up a 900MHz handheld recently and I will probably bring it along.

There hasn't been anyone in the past that has jumped up and down about 900 -

"Most" of the 'labs crew usually is on digital, which doesn't come in 900mhz formats :)

If you want to put a channel out there - by all means - you'll probably find other people will be there - but most I know of will have UHF/VHF or both.

2 radios is about my max, last time I just used a nextel the whole time.

Some others and I might be on a 900MHz repeater set up in the flea market. I will post the frequency information here later on if it works out.

Unfortunately, I can't afford an Astro Saber (yet) :P

Looking at getting to Dayton this year as I have never been there before and I got a question for those who have been there. Do most of the vendors take credit cards or mostly cash? I am trying to get out of carrying alot of cash so plastic would be best for me but I don't want to miss anything becuase I don't have enough cash.Any input would greatly be appreciated.--Thanks

I think that most of the big-ticket vendors (the ones that are inside) probably take plastic. I know for certain that people like Ham Radio Outlet and AES do. Outside in the flea market, though, you gotta have the green like Rick Rock said.

There is usually a repeater set up outside, but it covers the grounds inside as well. I'll be on that with my MTX9000 and I MIGHT have a VHF ASTRO Saber by Dayton time, keep my fingers crossed.

Will anyone else be using the 800MHz X-channel? I brought along my MTX8000 last year and heard a few guys on it.

I won't be doing much walking this year since I will be at the HamHUD/APRS II booth this year (not the traditional APRS booth).

I had my 800MHz MTS2k with me on the typical 853.4875 and heard traffic but everyone was DPL'd. I tried CSQ but nobody was hearing me. I had MPL set up but I guess my firmware wouldn't let it work despite the fact it sure as hell looked like it was.
Look, it's not in my nature to be mysterious. But I can't talk about it and I can't talk about why.

No one that I really know of carries 800 with them at Dayton -mainly because there aren't any open license/ham channels that "we" are allowed to use.

All the channels that have been used in the past are ham channels or MURS/GMRS Channels.

Sadly, unless you know something I don't - there aren't any open 800mhz channels that allow for FRS/GMRS/HAM type usage...

No, you can't use the ITAC's.... I'm sure the folks that run the dayton system would be pretty pissed about it.

i usually carry one of my old 800Mhz radios that has the national moto system simplex of 853.4875 it is set up with CSQ in position A PL103.5 in position B and DPL 065 in position C. i try to keep it in CSQ mode at dayton but sometimes it gets bumped over to one of the PL'd channels.

aside from that, i usually have one radio on 151.880 (sometimes run DES there) i would figure i'd hear alot of batlabbers there, but not really, i mingt hear 5 or 10 conversations on 151.880 the entire day i'm there.

and last year at dayton, i bought some 900MHZ trunked radios, they came with a simplex of 936.450 DPL 025 so i have some of those among my buddies, thats about all they are good for anymore. they are not CSQ so if you want to use that freq u need the DPL.

Yeah, I had my MT8000 with me last year on that freq and I only heard a few guys the whole weekend. I'll be in a booth this year inside, so I'll bring it along again to listen up for users.
