Curiousity -- Colored MT/MTS2000's?

Post by kc7gr »

This is something I've wondered about, having seen fluorescent-colored housings for the XTS series in times past.

Were there ever any housing kits made for the MT/MTS2000 other than black?

Inquiring knows want a mind...

Hah I was thinking that the other day too. It sure would be cool to have my MTS2000 in yellow!

Yellow + Clear

Post by kd5wyu »

I've seen yellow cased Jedis (exact same color as the yellow XTSs now) and clear-cased. Friend of mine had a clear cased MTX8000 (I think it was)

The clear cased portables are very cool-looking. Certainly different than the plain-jane black.

Not sure if they make any other colors, though.

Interesting thing about some of those clear cases though is that
they can void all type acceptance in some radios that use, in their
normal housings, a metalic film on the inside, to stop leakage of
signal from internal oscillators. Makes them fail standards for
incidental radiation under part 15.

Sure are neat to look at though ! Phrawg

You could always take a clear case and paint the inside of it whatever color you want.. lol

Just like they do those gas powered radio control car bodies.

I accidentally created an albino MTS one time. I got dragged down the side of a hallway, and got a lot of off-white paint on it.

So, I got some goof off (hey, it wasn't *my* radio), and tried to clean the paint off.

Took the paint off, and somehow sucked the pigmenting out of the case, turning it a weird whitish color.

It was easy to see who swiped my radio from then on, though, so I kept it.

I know a guy who molds stuff, http://www.sightowl.com , make it interesting to him, and I bet he'd whip up a batch.

While the thread is dug up, I have seen a few clear cased portables here and there. These have all been factory prototypes used for water and dust ingres testing.

A clear case with silvered inside/ mirror outside might look interesting.

We used to have red MT500 cases at Palm Beach Sheriff) PBSO 20+ years ago. We used them for the loaner radios
so they stuck out. The deputies hated them and usually couldn't wait to get their issued radio returned.

You guys ever check out "Project: Stormtrooper" over at Hamsexy? There were a few different colored Jedi radios. In fact I believe akardam has a pair of Stormtrooper white MTS2000s.

Heck, if you've got the money and the right salesperson, Mot will build them for you in whatever color you want. Railroads got MT-500s in yellow, and Illinois had their ISPERN system color coded with red mics. I still have a couple of those rascals. Some state forestry department out west had green stuff.
