Group Meeting in MA/CT area - 1/31 @ 1900

Post by alex »

Hey everyone...

It has been brought to my attention by a couple of members that it has been all too long since we have had another get together in the CT/MA area. There has been some discussion if we should hold it in Boston (proper or general metro area) or just go back and meet up in Manchester, CT where we had one probably 4-5 years ago.

The date for this is January 31, 2009. Time will be 1900.

I would like to Poll you guys to see what you would like to do better. Based on the majority of the group we will hold the meeting in that city/town.

I would like to make this decision no later than 1/15 to give people as much notice as possible, so please get your votes in by then. From there I will take PM's (or just replies to the thread) and we will make a reservation. Usually we do some sort of steak eatery (Outback has been pretty common) or possibly change it up to some Italian.

Look forward to seeing some of you at the end of the month.

-Alex

(P.S. Anyone anywhere can really organize a meet up -- if you want to do one in your area feel free. I'll even set the post as a global announcement so you can coordinate something, just let us know so we can move it around for you.)

Those opting for "Metro Boston" should specify whether they prefer downtown Boston (traffic, parking, other issues) or suburban Boston (e.g., somewhere along Rt. 128).

Wow, I just read this lol.
Manchester would be a perfect location for me. I know that I will 100% be there (Manchester is 4 miles from where I live).
If Manchester, count me in !

I would obviously prefer Manchester, CT since its a hell of a lot closer than Boston. However, I'm not sure I will even be in the United States at that point so don't count my vote.

The last meet.... hmm, was that when N.E.E.D. executed the raid on my office?

I voted for Manchester as well... As much as I would really love to see Boston (or the area thereof again), its a bit of a strech from where I am now.

Based on votes - Boston area it is.

I'm going to work with a couple of the folks I know up there to try and come up with a good place - but it looks as though we will go forward with something on the 31st at 1900.

Info for those coming: Providency Hiway in Dedham is no longer technically Route 1 north of Route 128. From Mass. Turnpike, exit onto "95 SB/128 SB" and exit at 15A, which will put you on Prov. Hwy NB. Joes is only a couple of hundred yards up the road, but if my memory is correct, it is on the west side, so you will have to make a U-turn at the first light.

For non-hams, didn't Batlabs have a Part 90 channel for talk-in?

Generally MURS - 151.88 DPL 143 / NAC 293. (noting that you should be complying with all rules/regs of the MURS world using that channel)

I think that was the first Dayton freq guide, and has pretty much stuck. Same NAC 293 on the UHF, but everyone tends to use VHF.

Guys -

It's great that there is a lot of interest from people as well as other individuals tagging along. That's the whole idea behind the meet and greets.

We are at the point where we may exceed our original guesstimate of people who will be attending and may have to work out additional plans with the venue.

IF:

* Your thinking about coming
* Coming but have *NOT* replied here, sent a PM, or otherwise told us
* Invited additional guests and haven't told us.

We can't plan for you. I won't be able to ensure there is a seat at the table(s). (Sorry in advance).

With this in mind - if there is any additional people who wish to RSVP so we can plan accordingly (and if you don't want your name mentioned fine - just PM GEMOTO or I) we will count you in.

If people drop from your party - fine. Just please communicate that.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help. I don't want this to discourage anyone from coming but I want to do my best to accommodate everyone so that you can all enjoy dinner!

Glad everyone had a good time. A big thanks to GEMOTO for picking out the venue... Great food and the service was excellent. We pretty much closed the place around 12:30-1am.

Nice to see a lot of you again and it was nice to meet some of you for the first time as well.

See you at the next one...
