Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. My name is Daniel and I live in Salisbury, North Carolina. I was a Firefighter & EMT up until 2011 when I was taken out of work because of a back injury sustained in a car wreck in 2005. On my time off from the FD I worked in radio from 1998 until 2010. I started off as an installer and worked my way up to the position of Systems Engineer. Unfortunately the back injury caught up to me in 2011 & I've had 3 back surgeries since. Once in 2012, 2013, and 2014. While I don't like not being able to work it does open up more time for me to indulge in my radio hobby, especially the days when I'm "grounded" in my recliner from pain. Enough of that, moving on..........

I've been a board member over at Radio Reference since 2006, and been a "stalker" here for just about as long & figured it was time to join over here too, LOL. I look forward to meeting more of the board members here!!

BTW, my screen name here (FD5722) is the same one I go by at RR.

It will remain in the outbox until it is actually read, then it moves to the 'sent' messages.

Hi .. Mark here - over in the UK -
i am a Ham licensed for 30 years, one of the UK's only Astro / P25 users to.. its a lonely job, but someone's got to do it..
I was hoping to be uncaged too - i am hoping to find an old 66-88 mhz Saber (or other bits) which are rare on these shores..
we play with, and or mod Astro Sabers, Sabers, Astro spectras, XTS2500, even ancient old VSELP spectras and a VSELP HT !

Hopefully it'll be ok for me to keep an eye open for much-needed bits, if uncaged

As a longtime lurker/somewhat recently registered user here I figured it was about time that I post something on here to say hi.
Im definitely not new to the radio world and some of you may know me from P25.ca aka communications.support as I have been a member and relatively active poster over there for a few years. Anyway, i'm looking forward to becoming more active over here in addition to the other sites I am a member of.

You clearly didn't read through the thread, particularly where I say in the second post of the thread:

Well I am new, and decided to register since I have a problem with one of my HT's and a search provided to similar posts. I have been in Ham radio a long time and just got interested in DMR and Mototrbo. Been having some fun with that until I killed my 6550. This seems to be the place to get questions answered and I am sure I will have many more questions as time goes on.. I also have a couple of Mantric Radios pulling duty as a Star repeater. They work Great !

Hello,

I am a newbie here on the board. I maintain the radios out in Death Valley National Park. I have the pleasure of maintaining XTL5000 W4 radios which make up about 95 percent of our vehicle fleet and a small contingent of XTS3000 which I recently received new in the box but are actually 13 years old.

I'm à registered HAM and tinkering around with electronics since I was eight, I actuallly bought à GM950 (M08KHF6AN3AN) figuring that I could use the case and powermodule for a design of my own.

Decoding the model number tought me the radio is either à 136-174Mhz Vera_abbekerk@hotmail.com

I am a newb here. My name is Aaron. I live in Cincinnati, OH, where I am a firefighter/paramedic. I am responsible for all of our mobile and portable radios within the fire department. Life was easy when things were normal, with only two types of radios. Now that the XTS series is EOL, I am finding myself needing to learn more about the new APX series, and some "brains to pick" along the way seem helpful.

Hi guys. New member checking in from SE Oklahoma. I've been lurking around BL for some years, but just joined the forums. I'm not much on the facebook groups.

At any rate, I have numerous projects, starting with a MSR 2000 that I'll be seeking guidance on. My long time mentor has moved across the state and I no longer have him at my disposal. You can only do so much over the phone.

Hello all! New guy here. Have been an avid fan of Kenwood's commercial gear, but more recently have been getting into Moto gear. I am basically self-taught regarding radios/radio systems, and I have a lot still to learn. I started into radios in public safety, then became a HAM operator. I promise there will be lost of questions about my new Moto gear, but I will try not to annoy anyone and give back when possible.

Welcome to the board here.

As a suggestion, when your looking for some information or help, provide the radio brand, the radio model and what the problem is or what your looking for. if your using some software that isn't working correctly, please provide what it is and the version. Also what computer operating software your using.

The reason for all the information is there are some interactions of computer operating system software and the Motorola radio software that can cause problems. The more details you can provide, the faster your going to solve your issue.

Some of the older Motorola radios require they be programmed with your computer running in DOS. Not in a DOS window inside a Windows XP or newer.

You will also need a RIB (Radio Interface Box, which is a voltage level converter) for many of the radios to be programmed. There are some of the newer radios that you can get that will run off of a USB connection. But these have a built in voltage level converter. There are even some radio programming cables that will work from a serial port. But these also have a built in voltage level converter.

If your good with a soldering iron, you can make many of the radio cables that go between the radio and the RIB. I do this all the time. The cable information is available in several places on the Internet. I find that starting with the batlabs.com site is a good starting point. There is a wealth of information there. You will spend some time reading there. Another good web site is the repeater builders site.

I just met somebody who drove from Winnipeg to Wichita to bring his 2975 in for service (he juuuuuuuusssssst squeaked under the cut-off for RMA support). He has been a lurker here, and asked the service guys if they could call me over to meet him (which I did).

He said he's been trying to register with the board for over a year but not been getting anywhere. Is there some problem with registering new users?
