Hi Everyone -
Got a new HT1550, but there is a small piece of lint inside the screen.....I tried smacking the radio on both sides, up and down...and nada. Motorola seems to lack in the quality control if you ask me.....
Has anybody had a similar situation, and how is the best way to remedy this......is it difficult to open the radio up so I can just take it off the screen?
Thanks a bunch,.

Open the housing, pop the display away from the plastic window. Get a can of compressed air with the extension straw used for computer cleaning, and blow it all out...

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

How do you open it up? Would try that for sure.

In the WARIS series Basic Service Manual there are instructions for the opening and re-assembly of the radio.

The metal shield inside the cover has four spring tabs, you can use an old piece of a 1/4 wave antenna with the tip ground to a fine point.
Insert the point under each tab(between the case and tab) and with finger pressure on the metal shield, gently pry inward on each tab, moving from the display end, to the lower end.
The opposite side should come out easy as the tension should now be fully released.
Lift the keypad PC board up, and using your finger, or thin soft plastic 'tool' you can remove the LCD from its location.
The pad has adhesive on both sides, with one affixed to the LCD, and the other to the case.
This adhesive is not strong, so not much force should be needed, but time can make it resilient to removal..
DO NOT USE FORCE!!
Slowly and GENTLY pry the display from the case, too much force can break the glass.
Digressing, the metal shield has four spring tab 'fingers, and two locating tabs on top, above the display, once the fingers of the shield have been loosened, lift the shield from the bottom first, then tilt it upwards, almost vertically, to remove the shield tfrom the case, without damaging the display, or the tiny flex cable going to the LCD.
There should also be a pad on the shield, or on the back of the display to protect the display from 'accidental' damage, don't lose it.
