Dayton 2010 Whos IN? (can we make this a sticky?)

Post by wazzzzzzzzup »

every year i like to start a thread for whos going to Dayton.

Dayton Hamvention 2010 May 14-16 2010
http://www.hamvention.org/
Main Telephone Number: (937) 276-6930
Tickets are good for all three days.
Advance Admission Ticket $20.00
Admission Ticket (at door) $25.00

i will be there! AND if i can borrow it again, i will bring the Astro Spectra/VRS crossband repeater setup
giving any ham who wants to experiment with P25 the ability to use a UHF analog ham radio to communicate with
VHF P25 digital users on the hamfest grounds.

the frequencies will be 146.565 VHF P25 linked to 446.000 analog simplex
set your UHF analog radios pl to 203.5 for access and your VHF P25 radios to NAC 293 (default)
203.5 must be used because the VRS wont operate without one.

the VRS will transmit a 103.5 pl but i would recommend that you listen to 446.000 in CSQ otherwise you will miss any UHF to UHF communication.

i have plans to have this P25 radio setup at Orlando Hamcation Feb 2010 FYI.

moderators, can you make this a sticky, as it has been made in previous years due to popularity of the event.

edit - made sticky (Wavetar)

Long drive for me, don't know if I can make it...........
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

That's an almost 13 hour drive for me (I'm in Connecticut). However, if there are members here that are going, and want to caravan/car pool that are also in the CT area as well, then I may re-consider. I know of a few members from CT but don't know if they will be attending or not. If there is a few from CT that are going I will more then likely also go as well. Anyone from CT if you are going, shoot me a PM.

I'd love to make it there, especially since my schedule matches up. However that is dependent on if I can find some people to carpool with and split hotel fees. We'll see in the coming months, as I really want to make it!

It seems that my school schedule is working out this year. So.. if the $$$ is available I'll probably tent it at the KOA and come for Friday/Saturday.

I'm trying to persuade our MarComs folks that Aeroflex should be at Dayton. I generated 3 solid leads last year just wandering around in my civvies, and I wonder what would happen if we had a formal presence.
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.

I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.

I AM NOT the Service department: You want official info, manuals, service info, parts, calibration, etc., contact Aeroflex directly, please.

In addition to the crossband thing the OP talked about, you want 151.880 in P25 mode (digital CSQ). There are some UHF FRS frequencies listed in previous Dayton threads but in my experience nobody ever uses those. I don't think there's a common batlabs ham frequency, and if you listen to the traffic on .88 for a little bit I think you'll understand why...

The answer: Most likely. Depending on what they have, and what they know about it you could pick them up cheap or they will try to get list prices for use equipment.

Out of curiosity, do you have to pay or get a bus pass to ride the shuttle from the parking to the convention? Also, can you re-enter the convention if you buy something heavy and need to run it out to the car? This is my first time going, and one of the first few road trips I've taken since getting my license. My GPS better not screw up! :o Guess it helps that I'm an Ohio native.

I can't speak for the shuttle pass, but you can come and go as much as you like so long as you have your ticket to show at the gates and doors.

If you get something really heavy, I'm sure there are those that will let you stash it at their flea market space for a limited amount of time if you happen to see a deal.

Re: the bus, it's not a bad system.
The info is here:
http://www.hamvention.org/travel.php
There may be a moderately lengthy wait and crowded buses in the mornings at the mall and at the arena come closing time. You can ride to and from the parking area all day with a paid ticket ($8 for 3 days).

No worries on in/out privileges.. just hang on to your ticket stub.

My own preference* is the private parking field immediately to the Arena grounds west. Look for signs with BRP or Basore Road Parking. I think it was $12 or 15 for three days but its a short, easy walk from a fest side entrance.

I'll be there this year. As always, I'm really looking forward to it.

*Sheesh...giving up all my secrets..
