ASTRO Spectra W3 DEK???

Hi,

Has anyone figured out how to wire a DEK for use with a W3 ASTRO Spectra. I can enable DEK's in CPS for a W3 but I cannot find any info on how to wire them to the radio. Any help would be great.....

I have a DEK driving the siren connected to my W3 Astro Spectra.

How are you interfacing the DEK to the radio??? I want to use it for mode assignments so that I can switch to a specific modes without having to scroll through with the mode switch....

He would be using the siren cable built specifically for siren dek use. It has a LONG dek cable that interfaces into the siren box. You could custom build your own cable that goes into the 2nd db25 connnector if your radio has that.

I think that you are using the HLN1439 siren with the HLN1241 siren with DEK cable. In this setup it looks like the DEK is communicating directly with the siren and bypassing the radio completely. Can you program the DEK buttons in this configuration or are they the standard siren default, in other words can you program the first button on the DEK to be wail or can it only be siren? If they are programmable has anyone tried to program the DEK for anything other then siren...mode, statas, message,etc.......

Hi Jason,

I do not have the HLN1241 cable so I cannot give it a try with different programming parameters. The Y control cable does not appear to have DEK DATA, DEK STROBE and DEK INPUT pins for direct radio to DEK connect.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Yes, that is the setup that I'm using. Yes, I've been able to change the order of the buttons and remap them appropriately. No, I haven't tried to assign anything other than siren functions to the DEK buttons.

Thanks for the reply....I do not have the cable but it looks like CPS will only allow siren functions for the DEK and shows error message when you select anything else. I guess I will still get the cable and use it for the siren.

I havw a W-3 Astro Spectra with the remote siren / DEK box. It uses a different cable; however; you can program siren functions for the HHCH as long as you have the DEK box hooked up. I took some pictures (but have no idea how to post them) of my configuration. I also have a "wildcard box" that controls my lights and strobes - totally differnt. I have a crappy Isuzu Rodeo without much space, so I needed it. I have no idea if Status / Message will work in the same configuration...
